- Oh. - Being disrespectful to the Tuggies? - Why you made a bitch? - So cute. He's got special needs. - Yeah, I restored gas. - I restored gas. - I restored gas these 10 seconds. - Well, let's-- I had two of those earlier. - Fred. - The Hunkamunga Hunkies. - Fred, Fred, we've-- - We've done good things. - We have a great honor. - Hey, it's an '80s movie that doesn't have any rape in it. So...
- That's a win. - It's a win. - It's a win. [MUSIC PLAYING] - God. - [LAUGHTER] - I can't help. - [LAUGHTER] [MUSIC PLAYING] [LAUGHTER] - It was a test done. [LAUGHTER] - Yeah, this is-- - You have to do this again.
[LAUGHTER] - I mean, you just bitches need to make it up. - I don't know what I'm laughing at. - Shut up. - Oh, God. Why am I laughing? - I don't care. - All right, I'm just gonna go right into it. - Oh, no, no, no. We're in another 10 seconds. - I need a 10 second. - I need a 10 second. - I need a 10 second. - That's what she said, right? - Yes. - [LAUGHTER] - All right, we sure got some stuff. - [LAUGHTER] - Every 10 seconds. [LAUGHTER] - Well, look, we had two of those earlier.
[LAUGHTER] - Oh, we had three. [LAUGHTER] - You guys had three of those? - Yeah. - No, I think we only had two. We did two. - All right. - We did two Irish women together. - I'm striving for three. - But I have to go. - You guys tried. - You're right. - All right. [LAUGHTER] - So, this is a pod. [LAUGHTER] - This is a shit show, isn't it? - I don't even know what to say. - I don't even know what to say. - What are we doing? - I can't just start reading the intro, if you want me to.
- All right, here we go. Let's go. - All right. - We're going up. 10 seconds. - Are we gonna do 10 seconds? - I'm fine. - We already did. - We have 10 seconds. - All right, fine. - We're in. - This bread. - All right. - Yeah! - Yeah! - Yeah! - Hey! - Hey! - This is, does it hold up, the podcast dedicated to potentially ruining your childhood? And all of your fond memories happen who are mom and dad. Calima! [LAUGHTER] Calima! [LAUGHTER] - All right, just the best I could do. - Oh, my goodness. [LAUGHTER] - Is that culturally insensitive?
- It's just a movie. - We don't know. - All right. - We've tried to read into what the hell-- - So, anyway. - --all the cultural shit is in this movie. - Intro's. I'm Brock. - I'm Brock's wife. - That's Amanda. [LAUGHTER] - I'm Brock's brother. - Brock's new friend. - And I'm the extra special guest tonight. - Brock's new friend. - We have flown in again from, yeah. So, I'm Brad, and then we also have a special guest. - No, super. - Extra, super special, extraordinary guest. - Extra guest.
- Uh-huh. - Kelly. - Kelly. - Brock's new friend. - It's all a relation to Brock. - There you go. - Brock's wife, Brock's brother, Brock's new super friend. - Yeah. - Super friend. - Super friend. - I like that. - Yes. - Yeah, that works. - I like that. - Yeah. - So, uh, we are today, tonight, whatever. We are going to be discussing Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. - Because we're doing-- - Did you get that hint from the beginning? - September. - Yeah. - That's what works September. - Yeah.
- And the episodes probably released in October, but-- - Or at least at the very end of September in quick succession. But anyway-- - Because there was a huge fight. - Well-- - Last week. - Yeah, I guess we should go ahead and touch on that. We tried to do a very obscure Spielberg movie called 1941. And let's just say, it didn't go well. - Brock and I got into-- - Just watch it. - Thank you. - Just watch it. If you want to watch it. It's not good. It's got a lot of-- Yeah, it wasn't good. So anyway, we decided to skip that one and jump into Temple of Doom.
- $100 on Patreon and we'll read it today. - Jesus, it's terrible. - I like that too. - So we decided to skip over Raiders of the Lost Ark because I feel like we could all agree Raiders of the Lost Ark is still good. - Is that true? - Seen it a bunch of times. One of my favorite movies. Great movie. Go watch it. It's wonderful. However, Temple of Doom for several of us held different memories. - We had a debate about it. That's why we picked it. - Which, yeah. - So for Brad-- - Can we-- - Yeah. - I would like to-- - How did your memory of it, Brad, was?
- Well, I had this vague memory of being pulled out of school early to go and see this in the theater. And I'm now wondering if that's some false memory that it was some other movie. But only because I looked at the date of when it was released. But I think that still holds up because it was March or May 24th. I said 84, which means I would have been in third grade, fourth grade. - Can I jump in? - Can I jump in? - I'd be like, OK.
- Well, I'm just saying. So I think maybe that mom and dad still-- because that's when we would have moved down. - Moved here in '84. - Yeah. - It was March. - So I would like to jump in. - OK. So you know what? They might have was us out of school because we weren't living in the house yet. The house wasn't there. - Right. - I would like to jump in and be like, that's really awesome. - My dad had a friend that had a roommate's brother. - No, no, no. - 31 flavors?
- No. But I know that the first movie I ever saw that was on a home video-- - The Exorcist. - No. - Debbie does that now. - Oh, my God. All right. So the girl behind the green door? What was it? - OK. So I'm just going to stop and let you guys talk about your fucking movie. [LAUGHTER] - But anyway, real quick, real quick, back to you, Brad. - I just-- - Your memory of the movie was-- - Well, I liked it because-- - Yeah. - But it had that sentimental tie to it. - That--
- I got pulled out of school early, and we went to go see it. And I remember dad being at school in a suit from work, which was not-- - Yeah. - Like, he never was-- - That's awesome. - He was only there-- - That's awesome. - The man never missed a day of work. - Right. He was only-- I mean, but he was only at school after hours when it was teacher-parent night. That was it. - Yeah. - And so for them to pull us out early and then go see this movie, I still remember it was-- I mean, where we live in Raleigh, I still remember the theater. It's not there anymore. It then became a blockbuster as teenagers.
And that disappeared, obviously. But I just remember it because it was a two-theater symplex, and they had that time capsule. Do you remember that? - Yep. I do remember that. - Yeah. - The time capsule out front there. We'd go all the time up in a-- - It's like an era now or something. - Yeah. It was a hickory ham at some point. It's right across from-- I'm sorry. I'm looking at Kelly, who lives up in North Raleigh, where we-- Brock and I grew up. It's right across from North Hills, where the-- where the vivace is.
- Right. - It's on that other corner. - Interesting. - And it's like, yeah. - Interesting. - So there used to be a movie theater back there. But I remember there was a-- they had it, like, as a kid, a time capsule. It was this cool, like, space-age thing. Who knew they were just burying some shit in the ground, and they were going to dig it up later. But it seemed-- it seemed much cooler than it was. They actually dug that one up, I think. - Was there anything in it? - I don't think in it. - Didn't they dig up one recently, or, like, they expected there to be something? The Robert E. Lee statue. They were supposed to be at time capsule and they couldn't find it. - Al Capone's vault. - Yeah, exactly. They're all doing it.
- They're all doing it. - All right. So Amanda, what were your memories of the movie? - My first memory, like, of a movie that we got to see, not in a theater, where somebody owned, I guess, like, a-- as a kid, I didn't realize that, like, you could buy a movie. - Yeah. Well, I mean, the videotapes were new back then. - And so the first movie I ever saw, like, in some of these homes-- - Yeah. - --was Indiana Jones, right, it was the last arc.
And, like, somebody in my head as a kid, like, oh, my gosh, they owned the movie, and it was in their house, and, like, we had Popcord in their family room and, like, watched this movie, and that was freaking amazing. - Yeah. - That was-- like-- - So when was the first time you saw this, do you remember? This one? - I got-- - I'm assuming that with that memory, this was a-- - This was a huge breakdown. - Yeah, that's what I was trying-- that was the point where I was saying,
like, the first movie I ever saw is somebody's house. Like, oh, my gosh. - Sure. - Oh, they owned the movie, like, in my head as a kid. They owned the movie. They had it there. Holy shit. So then the follow-up was this movie, and I-- - Did they have you back to their house for this? - No. - And you're like, what is this shit? - So-- - Popcorn's burn. - [laughs] - I know. - The tracking's all off on the beta max, like-- - Wow. - We did it. - Holy shit. - We did it. - What's that line doing there?
- We did it. - Just hitting it on the side. It'll help you. - Just the rabbit ears. - It's nothing to do with the beta max. - This movie, again, we didn't see in the movie theater. I think it was in a friend's house. It was just like, but, wait, what is this? - Yeah. - Do you remember liking it? - No. - Okay. - That was what I was trying to get at work. - My memory, honestly, because-- And I think, Brad, you were touching on this, like, oh, my God. This was like the best movie you ever saw ever.
Like, Amanda, you saw this here. So this, what are you doing? - Okay. - But my idea of a feminine lead, like, marry it. Holy shit. Like, she embodied everything that was amazing. Like, she was Princess Leia, but, like, newer. So then we go to this movie, and Kate Capshaw really-- You're like, wait, I'm sorry.
Are you-- wait, are you afraid? What are you doing? So that was my disappointment. So-- - Yeah. That's really just the female lead. - Yes. That's what I remember. - Okay. - That's what-- - That's fair. - That's what-- - You never expressed that to me before that the female lead was the thing that killed this movie. - You know what? I don't talk a lot about that sort of stuff. - I try not to talk to you. You're my wife. - Jesus Christ. - All right. All right. Brad, do you remember? Am I misremembering? - Oh, my God. - I don't remember getting pulled out of school, although I feel like we have done that before.
Like mom and dad had done that before, and it could very well be that that happened for this one. I don't have a distinct memory of that. I just remember-- - It would have been-- 'Cause if it was '84, I would have been in third grade when we moved down here. 'Cause we just moved up. And you would have been in fifth, so we would have been in fifth. - I don't have a-- Yeah, I don't have a ton of memories of fifth grade. - Yeah. - 'Cause it was a weird grade, 'cause we moved right in the middle of it. - Okay. - But what I remember about the movie is, loving Raiders of the Lost Ark, going to see this movie and coming out thinking it wasn't bad, but it just wasn't as good. - It didn't hold yet.
- It just, it did not-- - It's a tough fall. - It's a hard one. It's a very hard one to follow. However, I had also recently had-- I mean, not recently, within the last five years, had the memory of Empire Strikes Back following up Star Wars. So there weren't a lot of sequels coming out back then. Like now, sequels are just a dime a dozen. - What was your disappointment? - Still, the movie that came out after the first one. And Star Wars was one of those, like, the movies just seemed to get better. And I'm not really the return of the Jedi, but they didn't get worse. - As a kid, they seemed to get better. - What were they just, they were the exact same to me.
This one, I remember just coming out being like, it wasn't bad, but it just, there was something about it that wasn't as good. And I had trouble putting my finger on it, to be honest with you. So I didn't hate it, but I didn't love it. - Can we go to our super special extra amazing guest? - Yes. - Yeah. - So I loved the movie as a kid. - Really? - Well, I didn't see it when it first came out, though. I mean, I was six. - Yeah. - So I didn't, I don't think I saw it until we probably rented it. And, but I remember, I remember being like,
- Which would have been a year and a half later. - Yeah. - Well, but I'm just saying, I don't even know if I saw it. - No, I'm saying, like, go back in it. I had to wait a year longer. - I just, like, I saw this movie, like, around when I was like 10 or 11. - Okay. - And I, it's funny because I remember watching the movie and I loved Kate Capshaw's care. - Really? - But because I thought she was so pretty and I loved her outfit. - That's true. - You know, like, which she was all dressed up. - That's funny, definitely. - You're looking at me and you're like, - Well, no, no, no, no. - But I remember just liking it for that reason.
Like, she was, the beginning that she talked about Brad, where, you know, where she does the lounge. - And they do. - Yeah. - To be fair, though, you were also younger. - Yeah. - So. - And I had, and I don't remember seeing, I don't know if I saw Raiders of the Last Ark before, because that movie came out before, so I may have not even knew that one before. - So you asked to, want to go out before? - I don't know. I don't remember that. - Interesting. - That's the thing that I don't remember. I don't remember comparing that one to Raiders of the Last Ark because I don't remember if I saw them.
- Okay, so you don't remember when you saw, that's interesting. - I really don't. I just remember, I loved it, but then as I got older, like, I still liked it as a teenager. And then I remember watching it for the first time, kind of through adult eyes, and I'm like, "Oh, this is a little--" - I think we would all agree. If we had seen this one first, we would have been like, "Oh, this is a good--" - And I may have. - And then entertaining. - Right, entertaining. - And then you saw Raiders afterwards, you've been like, "Holy shit, this is good." - To be honest, but I remember seeing this one before,
I remember this one more than I remember Raiders of the Last Ark, and I think it's because of the age that I was. - Right. - Like, I probably saw-- - It reminds me of what we said about Jaws 2 and Jaws. - Yeah. - Like, I remember seeing Jaws 2 alone. - Oh, yeah, yeah. - Jaws when I was a kid. - And I remember seeing this one, 'cause it was on HBO all this time. - Yeah, yeah. - Like, I remember seeing this one way more than Raiders of the Last Ark, so I had very fond memories. I remember every time I was on HBO, I'd always watch it. It was great. I loved it. - But I think that, like, my-- my 1973 is September.
Like, that was, like, the perfect niche. Like, I saw Princess Leia, and then I saw Marion, and then I saw, like, I think that, like, this particular age bracket of me in, like, going to movies. - Exactly what I was born. - I saw-- - No, but I think it's-- like, I think that's a real thing, like-- - No, 'cause you were-- I mean, yeah, when Star Wars came out, you were four. - I was four, and my brother's first birthday happened
and my dad took me to my first movie. I was four years old, and it happened to be Star Wars. - I'm four years old. - We can't-- (all laughing) - We can't-- - Do not-- - Jeffrey Jenner. - Jeffrey Jenner, we cannot talk about that. Sorry, sorry. - That man's a rapist. Hey, we cannot talk about it. - We're like, "Don't cause a sheriff." - Yeah. (all laughing) - You're right, us boys. I have four years old. - Pick 'em up higher, let 'em drop. (all laughing) - Oh, God, so-- - Jeffrey, you're taking this check on me.
- It's so funny. It's funny. He's terrible. The bit's fine. - I don't know. - You would be talking about that. - I bet that story never happened. (all laughing) - So, I bet he's a fucking liar about that. - I was the perfect niche person that like-- - You were 10. You were just coming to realize-- - The first movie that my father took me to see was in 1976 when my brother-- - 77. - Yeah, 77, sorry. When Tyler turned a year old, and my dad and I went to our first movie together,
I was four. I can't even think about how-- - Do you remember that? - I do. The only thing I remember, because I was a very small child. - Sure, you're four. Yeah, I don't know if I have any memories from four. - We've-- - What do you remember? - Darth Vader scared the shit out of me. He was there for like two seconds. - Yeah. - That was it. - Yep. - But he was a huge villain. - Yeah.
- But-- - Look, I don't think I ever saw Star Wars in the theater. I'm sorry, we're digressing here, but I don't think I ever saw Star Wars in the theater till they re-released it in the terrible-- - No, I saw Empire. - We saw-- I remember seeing Empire. I definitely remember saw-- - Yes. - We definitely saw Return of the Jedi, but I don't think-- - Maybe it would have been two. - My dad. - I know. I mean, even though, but it ran for like, I saw it the year plus. I mean, maybe we went, but I don't-- - My dad was a huge nerd. - Sifi guy. - Sifi guy. - Sifi.
- Yeah. - Like, we saw-- - Yeah, but this even-- - I mean, we all know, this is-- - We saw Dude in the theater when it first-- like, the whole thing. And I-- like, all of that. So, I know that I saw Star Wars. Like, that's-- - When's that new dude come out? That looks kind of interesting. - The new what? - The new dude. This year, I think, like, December. - Yeah. - All right, so-- - Okay, sorry. - Do we want to get into the plot of this movie? - Ooh, okay. Sorry. What movie are we talking about? Because now I'm like rolling back on-- - We could just peek out on whatever, like, - We can do whatever we want. - Hold on.
- It's our blood gas. - Let's just gee. - Okay. - I mean, do we want to get into the-- - Okay. - So, we're just-- - Quoting, quote, plot, and all the holes in it. - I just, look, I'll-- I'm going to state my-- Brad, Brad Pacx. - Oh, so we don't have any Brad Pacx. - I'm going to say Brad Pacx for us today. - Loser. - I'm going to state my one, and you guys might know this, but-- - The cause of the release of this movie. That's why we have PG-13. Were you guys aware of that? - Wait, what? - No. - This movie was not, and then--
- What? - This movie came out in May. - 'Cause they ripped the guy's heart out? - Yeah, it was over. It was graphic. This was the catalyst that, by July 1st, they had-- - That's such a good version of that. - They had PG-13. And then here's the next little kicker, a little-- - Oh, damn. - What's the first movie that was released as PG-13? - I don't know. - Wait. - Red Dawn. - Yeah, really? - Yeah. - Holy shit. - Wow. - I wish you did that movie. That's a good movie. - Really? - Yeah, that was a wow. - That's a good movie.
I feel like-- - Like, what was it right? It was right at PG. - This was right at PG. - Okay. - Red Dawn. - Because it was either that or are, and there was no nudity. They were very little swearing. - That's something you should do. - Yeah. - Yeah. - You can do that. - Like, I remember like-- - Red Dawn. - I haven't watched that in a long time. Like, that was a movie that-- - Yeah, I really liked that movie. - Yeah, we should do that. That should be our November movie. - I think we should do that, and I should be like, 'cause I hated that movie. - [gasps]
- Is it really? - Okay, now we have to shoot her in the head. - Okay. - We don't like Patrick Schatzy being masculine. You're like a veteran. - Oh, my God. - You liked him better than a dirty dancing, where he's a little more-- - Oh! - And I still know. - That movie was the best movie. - Well, I mean, I cried. - I don't know if it's the-- - I don't know if-- - Nevermind. - I don't know if it's the best movie. - Look at my voice. - I thought it was a good movie. - At the time, as a teenager, I cried like a dork. I love that movie. - Which one? - Okay. - Red Dawn.
- I feel like we should address what Brad said about Patrick Swayze being a dirty dance. - Yeah, I know. - No, like, no waiters? Is that what you're thinking? - Okay, okay. - Oh, wait. Can we go back? Can we go back? - I shouldn't have said that. - I totally missed it, but no, I did not like it. - We're gonna address that later. - It was a joke. - I was trying to be funny. It was terrible. - It wasn't funny. We're gonna beat you out back with a stick. Okay. - We're gonna chain you to that thing and lowering the lava that apparently exists in the middle of India somewhere. - We're gonna push you down, Albert Hill, and not help me back up.
- All right, so should I get into the Wiki plot here? - Are we actually going back to the podcast? - Anything is, bro. Anything goes, anything goes. I will say that this movie out of all of the Indiana Jones movie I've seen had the best musical member. - It's the best musical member. - Pretty sure none of the other ones. - Oh. - Did the refrigerator one have one? I haven't seen that yet. - No, I don't think there's any-- - There's no russians here. They're not doing anything. - Okay. - Okay, I have only seen one. There's nonsense. And three. - You've never seen the Crystal Skull?
- Never seen Crystal Skull. - No. Like, is there a musical out of it? - As soon as they said "Nuking the Fridge," I was out. I was like, I don't want to ruin-- - Yeah. - What? - So I went and saw-- I went and saw it in theater. It was lukewarm at best, I would say. - Did it come across as a set up for Shia LaBeouf to be-- - Sure. I know. It's a very-- - It does. I mean, can I spoil-- I don't want to spoil it. I mean, anybody who hasn't seen it, it's time to turn off podcasts,
but I'm going to spoil the ending. - I haven't seen it. - I haven't seen it to be honest. - I don't want to spoil it. - That's good. - What happens is, so Marion's back in it. - Right. - I knew that. And they end up getting married at the end. - Okay. - And as they're walking, like, out of the church, the doors open up, the wind blows, and his hat-- In these hat falls off and it rolls in front of Shia LaBeouf, who is his son? - Right. - And he picks it up and puts it on. So it's kind of like they're-- - Yeah. - That's all-- - And it's-- - That's never-- - That's never amounted to anything.
- Sure. - 'Cause now they're making a fifth in the end of Jones. - Right. - With Harrison Ford. - Really? - 107 years old. - Interesting. - Whatever. It's cool. - I would like-- I mean, I saw it in the theater. I mean, I know, again, we're not reviewing this, but I saw it in the theater. I didn't like it. And I just watched it one other time with the kids. Still didn't like it, but then-- I don't know. I've heard some other, like, people that do movie podcasts on it. And it kind of like grows on you, like, just-- - Yeah. - Like, watch it.
- Yeah. It sounds like, I don't know. I might watch it again. - Yeah. I mean, there are movies like that. I can't think of-- there's one in particular that I can't think of up top of my head that I didn't like the first time I saw it. And I would actually say that that movie is a movie I like now. And I really wish I could remember it, because otherwise it's a shitty example. - That's a great story. - Isn't that a great story? It's not a great story. Thank you. - Might as well be-- - Might as well be-- - I know, I know, really, really. It's a good story out there. Nobody can see. - It's just like that's on it. - But there is a movie that I remember just not liking. And the more I've watched it, the more I've been like, you know what?
That's actually not bad. I would consider that a decent movie. But anyway. - Do I just add something? - What? - Anything goes? - No. You do not need that. That's just pointless, dear. - We're just singing about Shilobov. - I wasn't singing about Shilobov. I was talking about Shilobov. - That's a whole story. - All right. - Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. In 1935, Indiana Jones survives a murder attempt by Lausche. Sorry. I believe it's hard for us today. - Yeah.
- A crime boss in Shanghai who has hired him to retrieve the remains of Emperor Norhachi. With his young orphan sidekick, Short Round-- - Oh, he's an orphan. - Yeah, he talks about that. - And nightclub singer Willie Scott in tow, Indiana-- Yeah, I'm sorry, indie fleas Shanghai on a cargo airplane. - The opening is amazing. - It is pretty good. It's pretty fun. It is a fun opening. - It's a fun opening with the back and forth on the lazy Susan with the end. - The musical number, the getting behind the gong when he's getting shot at.
Yeah, I would agree. That's a fun opening. - Yes? - It's fun. Like Mel Brooks, like Mel Brooks will set up on a movie and it's like super fun and like crazy and that sort of thing where like there's a musical number and then the lazy Susan and they're like moving the diamond back and forth on the whole thing. And then later Mel Brooks will take that and run with it. This movie didn't do that. - All right.
- Okay. - I mean, it was fun. It was just, it was fun. - It was fun. - It's a fun scene. - Absolutely. - But it leads to-- - What? - I'm sorry, no, what did it lead to? - Kelly, what did you think of the opening? - I said, I love, that was why, that was what caught my eye as a kid. That was why I would watch it every time I come on HBO because that's that opening scene, the dance scene, her and her outfit, you know, it was, it really like, yeah.
I mean, I still love it. That's my favorite part of the whole movie, even as an adult. - Totally. That's just that part. - Yeah. - Okay, that's perfect. - Yeah, it's really, it's, it's to me, that's the iconic part. Well, I mean, there's a lot, but that's, that's the one that I always look forward to when I watch it. - It's a lot different than any other, any other part, any of the movies. - Yeah. - 'Cause he's dressed up, he's got his tucks on. I guess there is an increase-- - It's very James Bondy. - In crusade, there's a little bit. But there's nothing in-- - How does the third one open?
- It's young and it's, it's-- - It's young Indiana, then he's on a ship. - Yeah. - He's on the ship. - Yeah, yeah. - So it's actually his friend. - It's definitely a river. - River Phoenix River. - River Phoenix River. - Yeah. - That's where the train works. - And that's where you, yeah. - Yeah. - Yeah. - Yeah. - Yeah. - Right, and remember that. - Yeah. - That's where he gets his hat. - Okay. - It's much more like action oriented. I mean, I guess this one's kind of action oriented. - It is, but it's different. - Yeah. - It's just like, you know, all the other ones are like greys and, or dirt, like browns and like, 'cause itty has his brown-- - Yeah, yeah.
- Yeah. - Yeah. - Oh, no, I'm saying is that it led to them all, like, becoming a team, the three of them. - Yeah. - And it just, to me, honestly made no sense the more I thought about it, that if Indiana and short round are obviously a group, why does Willie tag along for the rest of the movie except as a plot convenience? - Right. - Right. - We should go with them, get on an airplane. - She should have been like, drop me off to the next block.
- She should have, yeah. When she fell through the things and like wound up in the street, she should be like, "Get the hell away from me. I don't know who you are." - Although-- - You almost got me killed. - Yeah, but Chang Lao, he was gonna kill her, too. - Was he? - Well, I mean, didn't-- - Why? - Well, he was willing to put her down with the plane, I guess. I don't know how she would know that, but-- - I don't know. - I feel like it was almost like if she realized-- - If she realized who she was dealing with, that she was out of the picture. - And all of a sudden, she's in an airplane with two people she barely knows flying over the Himalayans. - Right. - It seemed like, again, as an adult watching this, I was just like, "Why is she even there?"
I mean, I get it, she's a love interest and they had to get her in somehow. - It's a movie, too. We're not really-- - She seemed kind of shoe-horned in. - Right. - So, okay, and the other thing I wanted to address, short round. Anything racist about that name? I don't know if there is or not. - I don't think so. - No? Okay. - Weird nickname? - Yeah. - Short round. - He's Chinese. - He's short. He's not round. - Really? - He's a kid. - He's a kid, so he's short. He is short. I mean, he's a kid. I don't think there's anything-- - Okay, I just-- it's just one of those things that's-- - I don't know.
What is a short round? Like, is that a guy term or-- - Is that like a guy term? - I don't know. - I have no idea. - I don't know. - I just remember always thinking that was an odd nickname, but granted he's Chinese, whatever. - I mean, it's much like-- I mean, the same actor plays data. - I was just thinking that. That's more-- - That's more-- - That's more-- - He's the smart kid. He's Asian. - Yeah. - Yeah. - The whole short-- like, Asian people are short. - Traditionally, I guess maybe? - Yeah. - That's all I got. - With the round part.
- Round, yeah. - There may be nothing in there. I just thought, you know, does anybody-- - I think for a worldwide people-- - Is there anything there? - I think it's just a cute little nickname. - Okay, that's true. - For a cute little kid. I mean, that's what-- - Yeah, I don't think there's anything right there. - You're right. You're right. - It's not that it feels. I just-- - I think we're only projecting our 2020 back to our '80s, which we already know were raffy and racist. - Yeah, pretty much. I feel like there's something in everything. - And we're looking-- - I don't get to that once we get to it. - Yeah, and we're looking for something. - You've got short round, which has to be racist,
and you've got Willy Scott, Willy being a nickname for a penis. So, you know, whatever. - Oh, wow. - Is that what we're doing? - I'm on board with both of those. - Pena Scott. - So-- - So, you're saying Harrison Ford wanted-- - It's-- - There's a lot of gay overtones in this movie. - Oh, okay. - It's a big gay homage. - Oh, wow. - Oh, yeah. - I don't know. - I mean, if it is-- - That's why people didn't like it. - I give a lot of credit to, I see those billboards being very progressive. - Is that true? - I like you wouldn't like it? - I have no idea.
- I am totally making shit off. - I'm right there with you. I like-- Yes, let's make this a pretty helmet. - All right. So, back to the plot. While the three of them were asleep in this airplane, the pilots, employed by Lav Shea, dumped the fuel and escaped via parachute, leading the plane to crash over the Himalayas. The three narrowly managed to survive by jumping out of the plane on an inflatable raft. - Oh, my God. - The first of many, I don't know, overly campy stunts in this movie? That was one of the things I never liked about it as a kid.
Like, I thought that it was kind of interesting, but I felt like there's several things in here that are just, like I said, overly campy. - Indian and Jones was very much an open-the-top sort of thing. - You mean Raiders of the Lost Ark? - Sorry, yeah. - Okay. - The first movie. - Well, no. - Yeah. - I quantify it. Like, the first movie is just Indiana Jones. - It's just Raiders of the Lost Ark. - But, like, they added Indiana Jones to the title later.
- Yes. - It is, it is very much-- - Why? - I don't know. (laughing) - It will never be Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark. - No, it is definitely-- - It's Raiders of the Lost Ark. - I'm with you, I'm with you. - Oh, I'm with you. Okay, anyway. But, like, none of that movie was super, like-- Oh, yeah. This could have totally happened. But there was, like, that tiny part of your little nerve brain as a preteen, like-- - I see.
- Oh, yeah. This could have happened. - I would disagree. - It is very probable. There's some-- - As of achias. - I mean, okay, I get it. If you take out the whole God thing at the end-- - Please. - But the rest of it was very believable. - Yes. - I think Rocketmore referring to stunts and-- - And my tiny little nerve brain is like, yes. The first one, like-- - Good grace, God darn. Yeah, that could have happened. Like, I'm not-- - Good grace, gosh darn. - Yes, because-- - Yeah, watch your mouth, little Missy.
- Watch it out with soap. - Or, you know, I could just be an achias to be like, seriously, other than the absolutely, just, just, just terribly, Christian bullshit. - I already have to put explicit on the podcast. - All right. - Say what the fuck you want, God damn it. - Okay, but this movie? Like, what the fuck is going on here? I don't believe that any of the nonsense. - I think what Brock is referring to is that the stunts and stuff in Indy, in Raiders of the Lost Star, sorry. - I believe those. - It was a-- - No, no, no, no, because they're practical. Someone actually did it.
- Right, and then they-- - And then they-- - It's a gritty, realistic movie. - And then when they follow the airplane-- - I mean, you're 15 minutes into this movie and already, it's over the top. - You're like, what the fuck is this? - They just jumped out of an airplane on an inflatable light. - Yeah, and they're on this thing. - It's kind of fun, but you're like-- - They're on this thing. - They're on this thing. - They're playing a little while. - Actually, you know that? - But I'd say that. - It's possible. - It looks realistic. - Really? - It looks realistic. - Yes, really. - They're all from the plane to the snow looks when they go off the cliff. - That's obviously fake.
- But there's a fake scene like that in Raiders, where the car drives off the cliff. - My whole thing with Raiders is like-- - My whole thing with Raiders is that like, I don't believe in God and anything else. And like, I'm still buying it. Like, there's a lot of things that happen. - I don't believe in Callie Molly either, and I'd like this movie. I mean, like, yeah. - But the thing is, the God thing doesn't really come into Raiders until about very end. - Right. - Again, we are 15 minutes into this movie. And they're jumping out of a plane on a lifer. - And we're going to have to believe in shit. - And we haven't even gotten to the mine cart race or whatever you want to call it.
- I don't believe that. - Although the bridge scene was cool. I will equate the bridge scene to the stunts in Raiders. - I mean, do you feel-- - I thought the bridge was really, that was well done. - I feel like they were trying to top the first one. - Sure. - Yeah, yeah. - I mean, that's what they're trying to do. - They were like, okay, this was such a big hit. We've got to go extra for it. - I think it was, I think it was also, they were like, "Hey, we know there's a slow point coming up." They knew in the movie, like, there is a, the next 20 minutes or so of that movie is a drag.
- Yeah. - It's them being told about the, it's all exposition. It's them being told about stone, just them being told. - They have to set it up because they know who the Nazis are. - Right, yeah. - So the first one is like, you might have to believe in God. The second one, you're just going to have to like, just throw all your shit in and believe in something. - Everything non-Christian. - The third one, they're like, "We're going to throw some Christian shit at you. We'll even or not, but this is how we're going to, like, roll." - I would even argue that the third one was more of a,
like, let's recreate the first one. - Right, yeah. - But I think the second one- - Nazi is in Christian ideology and all that stuff. - Right, but the second one is like, you have to just suspend everything to wipe this train. You have to, like, we're going to jump out of this plane in this, like, raft, and we're going to have to do this and suspend all this belief and they're like, "Why are you suspended this belief?" - And part of it is just meant to be fun. - Yeah. - But the third one did fun. - But the third one had some of the campy aspects, too.
- Yeah, it did. - And the second one had campy. - Come on, they had the plane that was in the tunnel with them. - Yeah. - They were like, and then he used the umbrella to take that one. - Oh, that was awesome. - That was a nice one. - That's a different type of thing. - Yeah, it's a different type, though. - The first one did, the whole boulder. I mean, but I feel like-- - But that was like a magical fact they did that. - I think that's the issues. - See, I wanted to ride that train with the second one. - I think the raft just looks so fake. - All of it looks so fake. - It's just over the top because, okay, fine.
You haven't fallen out of the airplane. - Fine, yeah. - They're fine. - And did that. - Right. - Now they're going down a hill. - Right. - And they're going super fast and they're dodging trees. Okay, fine. - No, no, no. They've got to go off a cliff. - The atomic beat is what they did that morning. - Yeah, oh, we're good. - Yeah, exactly. - And then I wait. - And you know, they didn't get attack by alligators after that. I'm not, we're not movie makers. - No. - And we're also critiquing something 30 plus years later. - Yeah. - This is what movies work. - I know. - But my thing is, that was the thing that I struggled with,
is that Raiders was much more gritty and, I mean, to a degree realistic. Obviously, they're parts of Raiders that aren't realistic. This one, again, we're 15 minutes in and already, I'm like, well that's kind of okay. - Yeah. - Maybe, you know, it's already pushing those boundaries. - 15 minutes into Raiders. Like there's like-- - We're at the university and the girl's blinking at him saying, I love you. - He wasn't doing anything. - He wasn't doing the same thing. - Oh, not, no, no. - 50 minutes in. - He's gone. - Okay. - He's back at the university.
- And then the third, like 50 minutes in. - He's on the, he's already back out. He's already talking to Marcus. - Really? Okay. - And then in the third one-- - Okay. - Okay, yeah. - That's 50 minutes late. - He's back at the university again. Again, the third and the first one, I mean, we can go into this forever. - Yeah. - Are very much similar movies. This one does deviate in a lot of ways, but not all of them to me were good. Like I just-- - I'm just sad for this one. Like, it tried. - Why, it's still a good movie. It's so fun. - It's not a good movie. - It's a fun movie.
I will say that. It is an entertaining movie. And I didn't feel-- - It's got a little, I'll say the creep factors a little too much for me, like they have the whole really problematic scene with the eating, the food scene where I think it's like-- - That was right. - Over the top. - Let's make it super gross. - Yeah, make it super gross. - And I'm like, yeah. - That was a very problematic, like, other-- - Right. - Other culture. - Other culture. - Yeah. - Oh, oh. - Should I get back to the-- - Oh, sorry. - Go with the media plot. - It should have put my hand down.
- All right, so here we go. Back to the plot. So they've jumped out of the plane in the inflatable raft. They ride down the mountain slopes, fall into a raging river and eventually arrive at the village of Mayapore in northern India. I didn't know that was the name of the village. The villages plead for their aid in retrieving the sacred stone, stolen from their shrine, along with their missing children by evil forces in the nearby pancot palace. India agrees to do so, hypothesizing that the stone is one of the five
Sunkara stones, I think I'm saying that right. - Yeah. - Sunkara stones. Give them by the gods to help humanity fight evil. The trio receive a warm welcome to pancot palace and are allowed. See, again, we skipped over, like, the whole-- - Yeah. - The ocean smells bad and all that stuff. - Yeah, we can stop first. - Yeah. - I mean, like, nothing really. I mean, they get the-- it's a whole expedition dump. - Yeah. - Yeah. - They get the whole plot of what's going to happen, right? - Right. - He has a-- what's it called?
I like it. It's not-- like, he wonders, like, should he help them or not? Like, I don't know. I tried to think of the term for that. - Existential dilemma? - It's something like that. - Yeah. - I don't know. - No, but, like, a-- - Really? He needs to figure out what he's going to do next. - I want to say faith, but it's not faith. He's like, he wrestles-- yeah. Like, do I help these people? He, they think he was dropped out of the sky for them because of their God and he needs to go help them or-- - Right, right, help. - But he decides to help them because he thinks there's something
in it for him, which I think is a more realistic human emotion. - No, he does, but I'm glad. - Well, but also the kid comes-- the one kid escapes, right? - Yeah. - And he sees the kid and he realizes it's not some-- they're not talking some bullshit here. - Yeah. - Like, there is-- - The kids really were taken. - The kids really were taken, so he at least wants to go see, like, for his own eyes, what's up, and then they're going to-- I mean, I assume his plan was to go up there, like, check it out. Nothing was there. Continue on to-- - Yeah. - But this whole thing really sets up the whole, like,
it doesn't matter to me until it affects me and then having that kid come and say, "Hey, this is happening. Can you come look at this?" Now it affects Indy. - Does it, though? - No, he's already-- but he is already thinking about it here. I don't think it means-- I'm not going to get into Indy's, like-- - Okay. - He's a 1935 man, like-- - He doesn't have high ethics, though. He's in his, I would say, in his heart. He's a good guy, and he wants to do good. - Right. I mean, at the end of the movie, he could just escape with Short Round
and Willie, and said he's like-- - They can't show up, and he could be like, "Well, I can't do anything for this kid. Let's get the hell out of here." - Right. - I think that the reason that they-- that's why Short Round was in the movie. They set it up because they went into the whole story of how Short Round came in at-- he was an orphan, Indy saved him. So they set it up that Indy was going to go, like, as far as the plot. - Oh, so, yeah. - He was going to go in. - Yeah. - And he was going to go in, and they were going to-- - Yeah. - He was going to chill. They brought the kids into it.
He was like, "Uh, you know, well, whatever." - Yeah, that's a good point. - That's what that's on a thing. - He's like the restless. He likes other people's kids just not there. He has one's own. - Well, yeah. I mean, that's not the best way to have them. - That's actually a-- that's actually a really good-- - That's what I've always done, like, that's-- that Short-- that's why he was part of it because they were showing that human side to Indy that, okay? - Yeah. - But that's-- I mean, they-- - It's not all about the treasure. - Go to the background story of where-- before all of that comes in. - So how fortunate and glorious, I say. - Yeah. - I think they say that term four times in the movie. - Yeah. - They're showing him.
- Is that one scene, maybe? - Yeah. - But yeah, that's actually-- - That's a good point. - That is a very good point. - Yeah. - Because it always bothered me, again, as a kid, that Short Round showed up in this movie, and you never heard from him again. - Yeah. - Like, what the hell happened to Short Round? - It was-- I feel that was their way of setting up that plot. - 1936 was not a good round-- a good year for Short Round. - Yeah. - It's not a good round? - Yeah, a good round. - Oh, sorry. - 40, yeah. - Yeah. - Well, let's just pretend that they got back to the U.S. and Short Round went to college. - We're going to say that. - And didn't-- didn't die on the beaches of Normandy or something ridiculous in World War II.
So, yeah. - So, the trio received a warm welcome at the Bangkok Palace and are allowed to stay for the night as guests, attending a lavish, but revolting banquet hosted by the young Maharaja. And that, again, there's another scene in the movie that I always thought was just done for, like, ridiculous effect. - Over the top. - Where it's like, oh, look, monkey's brains. Oh, look, this guy's eating live snakes. - These other people eat something different. - It's just so dumb. - And I get that they're like, oh, these people are eating live snakes, and these people are
eating live. - But the thing is, Indiana indies off on the side doing his own thing. And then you've got Willie and Short Round at the other end of the table doing the comic relief with the weird sort of-- - And this whole thing means nothing except to project people as other. - It's a different culture. - I think we talked about before we started recording. I think it goes just to-- these are based on the Phantom and other serial comics, and that's the way-- they're wrong, obviously.
That's the way they were portraying other non-Western people. - Yeah. - And they-- I mean, 'cause we talked about-- the Indians in this movie are portrayed as, essentially, Aztecs with the human sacrifice. - Which aren't even-- like, we're over an Indian. - Yeah. - Yeah. - Africans with voodoo soccer, they have a voodoo doll at one point. They have this weird-- like, it's like, they're just a-- they're just a menagerie of-- - It's everything non-Christian, essentially. - Yes, exactly. - Yeah, but there's another piece of that food part that. The whole food-- when they were in the village, when they first got there, remember, they served
them the rice and the insects. - Yeah, she was like-- - And Andy made the comment. He's like, "These people are starving. - Oh, they have this. - You're going to insult them. - So, too, that was-- yes, they went over the top with that, but they did go into the fact that, you know-- - They do touch on you. - That there are cultures that do eat, and it's normal to them. - Yeah. - And don't make this another thing. - Yes. - But the other part was that other-- the top table was-- - It was just common. - Again, man, camp over the top.
- Yeah. - Like, oh, look, this guy's eating, like, the rear end of a big beetle. - Yeah, right. - And eating the mud stain. - But I feel like they were also making fun because these were rich people. You know, they didn't have-- like, it was-- they were taking it over the top and they chose to eat this. When they didn't have to, they had money, they had-- - Yeah, look at that way, it's really-- - But that's where they went. That's where they went over the top. - No, I'm saying both sides. It's like, Willy won't eat the poorer people's foods because it's-- - Yeah, but that was-- - And then-- and then even when she gets with the rich people who she's all about, she won't
eat their shit either. - I wouldn't eat a lot of steak either, so I'm not-- - But then there was like-- - Then there was a soup with the eyeballs. - Yeah. - Yeah. - So how is this human eyeballs? - I mean, they were human sides. - Nobody does that. - Yeah. - I mean, that was just-- again, we're getting to like, Pacific cannibalism. - Now you're portraying brown people food as something weird. - Very weird. - Yeah. - Like, just-- - So that's what I said. Like, they took it from one extreme to the other, where, you know, they're showing these
people that are starving and that's all they have, and then taking it to the other. So it's like-- - Yeah. - I think it was just-- it was the campy effect. - And it was for comic effect, 'cause like I said, at the other end of the table, you've got Indiana who is not eating anywhere food, but he's finding out what's going on. - Right. - He's getting like-- - Billing time it ever comes really into play is that it's the-- - British guy. - The British guy. The one thing-- - Yeah. - And he kind of throws it off. - Yeah, yeah, yeah. - And which I didn't even remember happening until I watched it this time. But it's like, well, we got the exposition over here, which could be boring to people.
So hey, let's make it funny. Let's put the Jar Jar Binks at the party. - But that's the thing. Let's put in Neil. Life Snakes. Whoo. - But that's important. - Sorry. Sorry, we're discussing our wine choices over here. - Okay. - Sorry. - Sorry. - But I think that we're all touching on, like, back in the day, like, none of us, as children, watched this, and we're like--
- You didn't question it. - Yeah. - No, I assume this was accurate. - But it was great, yeah. - To some degree. - Yeah. - Oh, Jimmie. - Jimmie. - It did give me the idea that India was a really dirty, nasty place. - Exactly. - And I think that as a kid, I was just like, why would I ever want to go here? - Right. - Yeah. - Yeah. I see that. - And then-- - They had weird food. Really weird. - Well, go and imagine that. What was the Brad fact about that it was banned in India? - Oh, that's true. I did say that. - Right. It was banned.
- It was banned in India. - What was the Brad fact? Please-- - I mean, I don't want to call it full Brad. I just saw real quickly online that this movie was not well received in India and then eventually it was not shown in India anymore. - Just because of the misrepresentation. - I don't mean that. - Because of the misrepresentation. - Yeah. - That's right. - Yeah. I don't blame them at all. - So back to the butt. - No, but they think this is where our podcast exists. - All right. So the officials rebuffed India's theory that-- and this is something I didn't know. The cult in the movie is called the Fuggies.
- Which we've-- - Which sounds like some kind of weird, I don't know, 90s propaganda. - We actually-- - We went the rounds like for five minutes, all four of us like, wait, did we hear this right? - Yeah, we thought it was Tuggies. - We thought it was Tuggies. - Well, because the one guy does say that in the end. - Okay. - That's how he pronounced it. - Okay, but that's his accent. - Yeah, what does that represent? - We don't want to misrepresent it and be like-- - But, you know, we don't want to misrepresent the fate of India. - Sorry, but like-- - Sorry, all the Tuggies and Tuggies. - Tuggies and Tuggies out there. - The Tuggie cult is responsible for all these problems.
Later that night, India is attacked by an assassin. After India kills him, he discovers a series of tunnels hidden behind a statue and sets out to explore them, overcoming a number of booby traps. - Right. - Which-- - Literally. - Booby traps. There are booby traps. There are, you know, lots of-- - Is it boobies or booby? - Booby. - Booby. - Is that one booby, but multiple traps? - My bad facts are coming back. Next-- - But-- - Again, we get into the campy factor, where it's like, short round accidentally triggers, he triggers--
- Tell us-- - Short round accidentally triggers the first booby trap. Then he accidentally triggers the second booby trap. Then there are bugs everywhere, just over the top-- - I don't know. - Yeah. - I mean, there's a secret passage to the-- - And he's got to grab the-- - He literally grabs the booby-- - He literally grabs the boobs of the statue to make it happen. - Which takes him a few minutes. - Which is kind of funny. - Which-- - No, Kelly and I were talking about, like, really, are you that afraid to, like, put your hands-- - He's just like, "No."
- He's feeling for air around the scenes of trying to figure out where to push. - He's not-- - He's not worried about touching the statue's tits. - It looks like he hits-- - Oh, sorry, boobies. - Yeah. - Jugs. He's not where we're talking about. - No, Brad, Brad. - The hunk among the hunk is-- - Brad, Brad, Brad. We've agreed on-- - We have agreed on the boobies. - I believe the first episode-- - Yes. - We went through the gamut, yeah. - Yes. - Boobies. - Boobies? All right, now. - He's afraid to pull his hands from the boobies. - All right, so for Keith and score, this has boobies.
I mean, I think this counts with boobies. - I would say it's boobies, yeah. - Yeah. - Well, my whole thing with that scene is he's attacked in his room. - Yep. - Okay. He kills the attacker, and then he goes over-- - I think-- - And you guys are saying he was making sure that she was okay. - Yeah, her talk. - But on the other hand, it was like he did, but it was like he was-- he was-- but then it was-- why would he be looking for your passage to him? - He wasn't. That's what I brought back. - He wasn't. - No, he was not.
- That was not. - He was looking for this other assassin, and then apparently, suddenly realized there was a weird breeze in the room. - Right. - No, it was-- - Which was a quick jump. - I'll admit. - Well, but no, no, but you guys don't-- so he's looking around, he's all around, and then he's just-- he's like-- because he just was choked out. He-- there's a mirror there, and he looks at me. He was. He was choked out by the guy that he puts in the ceiling fan. We didn't go into that, but which is great. But so then he comes running to make sure she's safe. - Yeah.
- And because he knows they're all under attack now, and he's looking all around, looking out at the bed on that, and he has the fine way by in there. And then he's-- I think he's just like-- like doing a self-check, there's a mirror there. He looks-- and then he sees the reflection of the flowers in the mirror that are moving. That's how he realizes it. - But the essence is he sees the flowers moving in a room where there shouldn't be a breeze. - Right. So, like, just the breeze. - That was all it was. - That's all it was. - All right. - But then he's like, what the fuck is this?
And he pushes-- - Okay. - Because I think he's more thinking there's somebody that's going to use that to come out and attack them. - Yeah. - So he-- - How does this guy get into my room? - Because he already had somebody in his room, so he's like-- - So, not to be funny. Like, the easiest thing to push on would be-- - No, but he reaches-- - He goes around the statue position again. That's just a little bit of comedy. - That would be fantastic. - Yeah. - No, it's just comedy. It's a little bit of a dull-- - That's a really good point. See, I feel like-- - Yeah. - I feel like if in that scene, if Indiana had been, like,
looking around and if Willie's like, what are you doing? He's like, somebody got into my room and I want to make sure there's-- like, but it was just assumed and I feel like it was-- it could have been missed. I missed it as a kid. Like, why was he doing all this? - I have a thing. I'm like, why is he looking for a secret passage? - Yeah. - It's a kid. - It's a kid. It's a comic. Well, but he's not looking for a secret passage. - Well, no, until you guys said the same, I actually-- - Yeah, yeah, he sees-- - That's just-- - He's always moving. - Yeah, I think that you're right. That's what he's doing, but it's-- to me, it wasn't obvious in the movie. That's all I'm saying. - Like, if you were--
- He's looking in the mirror and then he looks back at the flowers and he puts his hand-- there's a whole scene where he puts his hand-- - Yeah, but why is he looking for a secret passage? - No, he's not looking. - No, he's not looking. He just finds it. - Okay. - He sees it. I don't think he's looking. - Okay. - And so, like, if I was gonna look at Brock when I push onto his ear or his shoulder or his butt, I'd push here because it's here. - It's not. - Oh, yeah. - No, I don't like the-- - No, it's not what we're talking about. - Sorry.
- No, no, no, we're just-- we're talking about why he'd even be looking. - I guess I always questioned why he didn't-- and that-- I never looked at it in that point of view. I always questioned why he didn't look for the secret passage in his room originally. - No, he's over there. - But I get it. - No, I never looked at that way. - He's like-- - They're symbols across it. - No, no, he's-- yeah. I'm sure there's one on the other side. He just didn't have to use that one. - Right. - 'Cause that's where the guy came. I'm sure there's one over there, too. - Why did Willie come along with him in the first place? - Oh, my God. - Oh, my God. - Ooh, right. - So, back to the plot.
Oh, boy. - Okay, the trio reach an underground temple where the fuggies-- sorry. - Shall we wait? - Great. - I did have a question real quick. - Yeah, yeah. - So, that is the temple? That's a temple? - It's an underground temple. - I've always wondered where-- - Is it under the palace, I guess? - It is, but I've always wondered where the temple and the temple of doom and the-- - Yeah, I guess you're right. - I never-- I guess I just the temple? - Well, yeah, that's where they're doing-- - Shouldn't call it a temple of Kali. Why'd the temple of doom? - Well, that means-- - Nobody knows what Kali is.
- Well, it's doom. I mean, I-- but I never-- I never knew where the temple was. - Yeah, I guess I would be a temple. - But again, it's a non-- - That's where they're-- - It's a non-Christian temple. - Oh, that's where they're-- - It's a non-Christian temple. It doesn't-- - To our eyes, it doesn't look like a temple. It's a big room. - Right, it's-- - I don't know what a temple-- I guess I just don't-- - It's not where they-- - It's a place of worship. - Okay. - Or a place of worship. - That's a very good point, actually. - I guess I never really put that together. - Yeah. - I just thought it was a sacrifice place.
- I guess it's a place of worship or a place of worship. - Sure. - That makes a complete sense, but it wasn't. - This may be too early to talk about this, but I think one of the biggest problems with this movie is that the-- like, in the first and the third movie, you know the Nazis are bad. Nobody needs to set up how bad the Nazis are. - Right. - In this movie-- - They don't do a good enough job. - Wow. - It's not that they don't do a good enough job because they show that they're, like, burning people. But at the same time, it's almost like you've got, like, 10 minutes to realize these are bad people. - I feel like that's why they said the kids were stolen.
- Yeah, like, they had to do as much as they could to show you how bad these-- they're a cult. It's Waco, essentially. - Yeah. - No, but you know what I mean. - No, we had to talk about that. - It's an unknown entity. You have to realize as the bad guy. - Another thing I read is that Spielberg wanted to do another Nazi thing. - Yeah. - And Lucas was like, "We can't do the Nazis again." - What? - Yeah, he's like, "To me, you could do the Nazis all day long." - I mean, that's for Spielberg. - That's for Spielberg. - They are the ultimate bad guy.
- They're easy. - It's a busy game. - Well, it's not easy, but it's like, if Rock said, "Everyone knows that they're the bad guys." - Yeah, who are these guys? - You put a swastika on your bat. - And instantly you know. - Yeah. - And this is, maybe this is why we, maybe some of us have, like, they're Indians. - But it's such a... - It's like, why? Like, it's just weird. - They could have done all the stereotypes they want. - It's such a thing. - It would have been trying. - Yeah. - Like, it really is. - Yeah. - Like, are they... - Really?
- It's just, it's a local cult. - They're like, "Indian, are they?" - And they actually talk about, when we watched it this time, I realized, 'cause we watched it with subtitles, which I highly recommend to anybody out there. - Yes. - Yeah. - They talk about how they're gonna destroy the Muslim God, destroy the Jewish God. - Yeah, they're absolutely absolutely. - They're totally... - I never caught that. - They ever heard that. - Who the hell are these? - I thought these are gonna take a little while. - I'm gonna say, yeah. - I mean, what the hell? - I've seen this movie 30 times. - Yeah. - I never knew that... - Yep. - That was fair. - We're never gonna play on either, yeah, until I read it. - Yeah. - Yeah.
- Yeah. - Yeah. - Yeah. - Yeah. - Where, again, go back to the Nazis. - Yeah. - We all know what the Nazis are doing. - Right. - So... - Who are they? What are they actually charging to destroy? What are they against? - Yeah. - They're bad guys in this random place in India. - Right. Well, I feel like, yeah, maybe they could have... - Wow. - Well, when the one kid says... When the print says, he tells the story of the Thuggies. Maybe if he had included... Don't laugh with the Thuggies, that's her name.
I mean... - It doesn't end with the Z. I'll put it out there. - Yeah. - It's not Thuggies. - It'd be... - No other hats. - No, yeah. - Shh. - Can I have a rap battle with the Fuji? (laughing) - That's true. - All right. - Y'all. - I'll have to edit all this out. - Why? - I'm kidding. I'm kidding. I'm kidding. No, but I wonder if they had mentioned like that. Like if he had said that in his little expedition dump... Oh, what they wanted to do a hundred years ago was... Attack the Muslims, attack the Christians, attack the Jews.
I wonder if it would have... 'Cause it's really... 'Cause it's... When they're putting... - Willy in the cage. - They're putting... - Really the cage? And he just... Like the one guy just dumped them. - He monologues. - So he monologues. - So here's what we're trying to do. - Yeah, and it's... - No, actually they were whipping indie. - That's what it was. - Oh, that's right. - He was trying to pour the blood in his mouth. - Right, right. And they just dumped this and it's like... It's sometimes... I mean, like I said, it's saying the movie 20 times and have not... Didn't put it together. That's... - Yeah.
- Like if you had said that... You can see where you're like... Oh, these are bad. It's just a bad cold, like... - Yeah. - Who wouldn't want them around? - Yeah. - Sorry, man. - You had something to say? - This is a stretch. - No. - Oh, oh, sorry. - No, I should... - I just... Like I said, I just wanted to get that out there. I think that was one of the biggest problems with this was just that... You know, it was not a well-established villain. - Right. - I mean, even in the fourth home, which I haven't seen, I know it's the Russians and it's the Cold War Russians. It's the economies. They're the bad guys, right? - They're villains.
- That's right. - For the most part? - I mean, there's... - He's going against the Soviets, right? - One's a Soviet. - Okay, but again, it's an established thing. It'd be like if James Bond wasn't going up against, you know... - Yeah, I guess... - And Spectre, he's going up against just some random person. - Yeah, but they... I mean, the comments are good. I mean, in the '50s, they were good. It's McCarthyism, like... - Yeah, anyway. - It was a well-established bad guy. - Right, this is so weird. - You didn't have to describe who the commies were. - Right, this was so weird. - It was just... - He's a Russian.
- Yeah. - This one was just... It was hard for me to ever get a grip on how bad they really were. - The villa was brown people. - You think? - I don't. - I think that's what they were known for. - I don't know about that. - I think they just go for a cult. - They went for cult, and then as a cult, they went for... - I'm sorry. - So we're all distracted by the thundering of footsteps that are upstairs from our recording studio. - I'm sorry.
- There was all, like... - I... - I... - Use your words. - I can't use my words. - This is an audio medium. - I'm sorry. - It was more like South American religion, such as religion. - No, sure. - They... - They... - They... - They... - They... - They... - They... - They... - They... - They... - They... - They... - They... - They mushed a bunch of stuff together to make the people bad, but I don't think... - They borrowed from a number of different religions.
They... - They did. - So yeah, there were voodoo dolls that was written out of the heart, like an Aztec thing. - I'm sorry. - Sacrificing into lava, like South Pacific. - Thank you. - I'm sorry. - Maybe that was just more... I think that was more just to make it... - To make them... - Bad. - Make them, you know, over the top. - We had to... - They had to convince us that these guys were bad. - Yeah, yeah. - I'm sorry. - Yeah. - I don't think that was... - But I think... Like, I know why they did it, but I do think it led to... - It helped... - It helped lead to the campiness aspect of the heart.
- Right, yeah. - We're like, "Oh, look, when did they make the voodoo doll?" They had... All of a sudden, the guy pulled out the voodoo doll... - Which has nothing to do with... - Of Indiana Jones. I'm like, "Where'd that come from?" - And you had mentioned that you were actually watching this. - And he's a princess. - What else is that? - Again, has a kid never thought twice about it? 'Cause, hey, it's, you know, it's... - Well... - It's India. They mushed voodoo. - Right, in Indian religion. - We knew that voodoo, as we know it was not, but we... - Yeah. - Like, is there a... - Right. - Another part is... - Is there something like a voodoo doll?
- And even in Caribbean culture, voodoo dolls are more of an invented thing. - Right. - It's not even a thing with them. - That's the thing that, like, you were asking me, like, the whole idea of, like, the religion and everything that was supposed to be scary part of this, like, it didn't translate. - Yeah, I think it was just more... I think now, look, I think they're just trying to make them, like, the Nazis are easy. They're like, they're a bad guy, boom, boom. You don't need to do anything. All you gotta do is say they're Nazis.
- Yeah. - I think they were trying to make this group, this cult, in the movie... - Other. - They were just, like, yeah, they did, you know, sacrifice. They stole kids, they were into voodoo. Like, just everything they could throw at them. And it's also, like I said, this is based on old comics. - The old series. - The series that George Lucas and Steven Spielberg grew up on. - Yeah. - And they weren't, like, they weren't doing, they didn't have a research department.
- Yeah, they weren't trying to make this historically accurate. - I mean, I'm not saying this movie, I'm saying, but I'm saying those comics, what they thought, like, yeah, this is not a documentary. - It's not. - Yeah. - But it's still like this whole idea of all brown people or others. I don't like that. - There is a look. - Yes, I see what you're saying. - But, like... - But they... - I was saying that he helps... - The first Indiana Jones, like, it didn't have that. It didn't have that idea.
- No, it was based on the Nazis. - No, that's not true. He's in South America at the very beginning, and they're all... - But? - Yeah, but... - Yeah, I mean, in the very beginning of the Raiders, I mean, the Raiders, in Raiders, the very beginning, he is, it is, they're all, like, what we... But as kids thought, cannibal, you know, savages, running around with blow darts and all that. - But the guy that was playing... - I mean, that's a very stereotypical portrayal, too. - But the guy that was playing... - I can't think of his nickname. What he's leaving.
- Ah, it's my hand-snake, Rishi. - Jacques. - Jacques. - He's the pilot, and he's South American. - No, he's not. - He's a white guy. - He's a white dude. - He's got a state. - He's got a totally a white dude. - Yeah, he's totally a white guy. - Okay, but I think he... - No, he's a total white dude. - He's got a bar at Disney Springs that we want to get. - Wait, what? - It's called Jacques. - I need your roll. - Wait, wait. - Is it his AOTK? - Is it his AOTK? - Like, Jacques. - No, Jacques. - We need to hit friends on this.
- Wait, what? - There's a bar at Disney Springs called Jacques's Hangar. - What? - And it's based on that guy in the very beginning of Raiders. - So apparently the suggies were real? - Shut the front door. - Shut the front door. - Hold on, stop. This is interesting. Apparently the suggies were real, but they were organized gangs of professional robbers and murderers that the English, like when the English were ruling India, saw as like this roving problem. So they, I mean...
- Oh, God, that makes this worse. - It makes it worse. - It makes this movie worse then. - I mean, you use those like... - I wish we were recording. - We are still recording. - That makes... - Yeah, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to. - No, I just... I'm just reading about this now. - That makes this really... - Holy shit. - Yeah. - It's like this made up thing of what, you know, like the Indian ruler, I'm sorry, the British rulers of India made up about these people who were just going around fieving and they felt that they actually exaggerated it and oh, wow, this is a whole can of worms.
We don't need to go into this. - So this was like a colonial thing. - So the suggies were real, but they weren't a cult. - But then she's like colonial. - They were like a counter like colonial thing. - They were just a band of robbers apparently, but I don't know what the idea was behind them. Like, I don't know. - Okay, were they like a boogie man at the colonial's? - I don't know. I don't want to claim that I'm an expert on the field, but it is an actual term, but it was not a cult. - You were talking about how it was all made up, and I just wanted to make sure that it wasn't an actual cult.
But it was a term. - Thank you. - But it described this band of robbers that probably were going around trying to steal things because the British subjugated the Indians. - I thought the British guy said something about that in the movie. - In the movie? - They were talking more about the religion. - I don't know enough about it to tell about it. - I just don't. - Well, I don't know, maybe not. - Good idea that they worship Kali with human sacrifice is like taking on the idea of,
I don't know, think of something comparable. - Let's ask that. - Mexican bandits from the Old West and to say that they were into human sacrifice. It's just expanding upon something that was real and making it just ridiculous. I had no idea as well. - That is real, all right? - What? - Mexican bandits? - Well, yeah, that's what we're going to build. We've got to keep them out because they eat babies, man. Come on. Do we want to finish this plot? - I want to get to the fucking mind tree.
- All right. - Well, that's going to be like one sentence in here, trust me. - All right, we're going to go. We're two thirds of the way through. - We already had, we just had their feast at the palace. - No, we just had the overcoming the number of booby traps. We got into the temple now. - Well, here's my, I do have one thing about that seat. - Oh, I have one. - Lily needs to step up and just put your fucking hand in there and grab it. I don't give a shit. - Although she didn't scream as much as I remember. - Yeah. - We'll say that. - But they're in there yelling. - They're dying. - They're about to die.
- The Indiana Jones is like, we're about to die. - Yeah, she's like, what do you care? She's like, ew, that was fun. - Thank you. - So, but here's, it's also problematic because it's the, it's a 80s version of what a female would do. - Yeah, exactly. - And that's problematic to me. - Okay. - Exactly. - But Marion wouldn't have done that shit. - Right. That's okay. - Well, yeah. - She would have stuck her hand in it. She wouldn't have liked it, but she would have done it. - So we were watching. - Well, if it was snakes, anyone stuck his hand in there. So let's stop pretending. - Right, right, right. - Some female male thing.
- Okay. - So, what do we do? - Why are you banging on the dead on the floor? - That sounds great on the podcast. I have to edit that out. - I'm kidding. - I'm going to have to edit his ass out too. - I'll be good at quiet. - That's, I'm pointing to my dog. - You weren't pointing to me. - Yeah. - Don't edit my ass out. - Sorry. What were you going to say, man? - I was just. - She doesn't know. - All right. We're going to do a 10 second run off. Hold on. Everybody be quiet. No. What?
- No. - I'm going to be getting quiet like a good woman does. - Oh, yeah. - Scream. Yeah. Just watch out. There's a bug behind you. It's going to kill you. Yeah. Although that scene where the bugs are like, that's a totally fake head. - Oh, yeah. - What's her name? Kim Catrell. That's her name. What's her name? - Kate Capshaw. - Kate Capshaw. - Don't give her a name. - It's her sex in the city. - I know, but I know they're two different actresses.
And I always get their names confused in my head. But I know, I can see, like I know in my head who they are. But yes. Kim Catrell. - Kate Capshaw. - Kate Capshaw. - And there's Jones in the temple of sex in the city. - Yes. - And temple of sex. - And a mannequin. - Yeah. So they made a porno. - That's what it was. It was just Indiana Jones and the mannequin. - I think that is the porno called that. - It was, yeah. So Indiana Jones and the mannequin. - Indiana Jones and the mannequin. - Or just Jones and the mannequin.
No, I just, that scene where like it's her head and the bugs are all crawling in. I'm like, that's a fake head with a fake way. - And again, it's that camp. It's like, let's make it over the top icky. - Yeah. - Yeah. - And the, I mean, the thing is like, there was that scene in Raiders where Marion winds up in the room with all the skeletons, right? - Right. - And it's, it's kind of freaky, but it was 20 seconds long and then it was over. - Yeah. - It wasn't, it just wasn't as over the top. And I think that was the problem is they just tried to, they tried to amp everything up.
- They also did that scene in this movie. - Yeah. - To a degree. - They're just walking back. There's two bad bodies in here. - The two dead bodies, yeah. - There's gonna be two more in here. If you don't get down, get your ass down. - Yeah. - Whatever you say. - Yeah. - Yeah. - And it's just, so I mean, they do that, they do it again and they really recycle that one. - All right. How about this? How about this for a, what does, is this an okay thing? When, when indie and short round are first walking into the room with all the bugs and short rounds, like it feels like I'm stepping on fortune cookies. - That's a problem.
- Was that problematic, anybody else? - Or a fortune could be even a thing back then. - They're not even really a Chinese thing, am I understanding? - No. - They were not, in 1935, I doubt the fortune cookies were-- - That's what I'm wondering. - I don't know. - Why not, you know, I don't know, something else? - Yeah, I know. - Just fortune cookies. - That was, I agree. - I just remember hearing that I was just like, again, with the subtitles. - Yeah. - I probably never caught it without subtitles. I was just like, I don't think fortune cookies were a thing. - Yeah. Why, why does the little Asian kid have to reference fortune cookies of all things?
Yeah. Back to the plot. - The trio reach an underground temple of doom, where the Thuggies worship Kali with human sacrifice. They discover that the Thuggies now possess three of the Sankara stones and have enslaved the children to search for the last two hidden in the palace catacombs. I had trouble with that, too, because these kids are just like randomly mining gems looking for stones. I think they talked about that, didn't they?
They explained in the movie. - Oh, right, because they're trying to finance. - They're trying to finance these stones. - And then they also are making for gems that are financing and everything. - Why are the kids digging? You know, like, if you get over the whole child labor thing, it was like, what are the kids digging for? - Well, my question is, why would they take the kids? - Because they're free slave labor. - Well, why wouldn't they take, if they're going to enslave, I mean, if they have that power, why wouldn't they take the men who can work for a stronger end? - I mean, I don't want to get into the whole, like, slave logistics here and all that.
- Oh, I want you to get into slavery. - No, but I'm serious. Like, you take the kids, because you only need a couple of strong men to beat them down. They're scared of the adults. - Oh, that's fair, that's fair. - If you have a bunch of adults, they could, it's going to take more. I'm just logistically... - Not if they're chained. They were, they had these kids chained. - Maybe a storm. - But they still, the thing is, they were supposed to be under the blood thing that Indy got under, and yet they still had problems with them, and they were still whipping them and all that. - That's what it was saying. Like, why wouldn't they take the men? That part of the story. - It was, again, it was just a way to make them look bad.
It was just, see how bad these guys are, they have enslaved children. - Well, I think it was more of that. I think it was more of a plot device. - I think so, too. - And it goes back to, like, the whole indie thing was short round. Like, they set that whole scenario. - That whole thing where, like, Indy was under the... - Yeah. - I don't know, the spell of... - I don't like that part of that. - I don't like that part. - I don't like that at all. Bad Indy is not a good Indy for me. I do not like Bad Indy. - Like, I like Bad Sam. - Bad Indy is bad. - I like Bad Indy.
- I mean, I do not like Bad Indy like this. - I don't like Bad Indy. - Bad Indy. - Bad Indy scares me. - Yeah, no, but like, Bad Indy is not even believable. Like, Bad Sam. - Well, okay. - So, back to the plot. As Indy tries to retrieve the stones, he, Willie, and Shorty. - Shorty. - Shorty. - He was shorty in here. - No. - You know, personal. - He's not a fucking sandwich. - Shorty are captured. So, they're captured. - Fuggie High Priest. - You have Fuggie. - Edit that. Come on. You have to go to look for it. - All right, fine. I'll go in and edit it at some point.
Short round. We use the proper name in this. Fuggie High Priest, Moloram, forces Indy to drink a potion that puts him into a trance-like state in which he mindlessly serves the cult. Willie is prepared for sacrifice, while Shorty is put to, again, Shorty, is put to work in the mines with other children. - All right. - We're really butchering this movie. I'm just gonna put that out there. - I don't think we are. I think it's okay. - Are we not? - I think it's great. - All right.
- Okay. Like, are you gonna drink something like, even if you're not gonna, are we, I'm sorry. - Let's see. Willie is prepared for sacrifice. All right, I read that part. Never mind. Shorty escapes and returns to the temple.
- Shorty. - Yeah, again, we're-- - It's still falling short. - I need to edit this whole damn article. Shorty escapes. If anybody out there likes to mess with Wikipedia, have at it. Shorty escapes and returns to the temple where he first frees Indy and later the Maharaja from the effects of the potion by burning him. They don't go into that. Indy saves Willie and retrieves the stones. After freeing the children, Indy fights a hulking overseer and leaves him to be killed by a rock crusher. - I love that Brad has his arm up. - No. So I do love, first thing is that any of us, the beauty of, as Michael Scott said, the beauty of Wikipedia
is anyone can edit and put anything in one out there. - True enough. That's right. - I did not know that. - I'm going to put in shorty around-- - Oh, yes. It's full name. Shortest round is. - Actually-- - You can put anything in one out there and then like they have, they have people to go back through and edit it. If like, but apparently like tall people do it, the majority of the work, they go back through it, which is insane to me. And they go back through and edit and solve. But you can put anything in one out there in Wikipedia. And if you can have a citation for it, then it's locked in.
- Interesting. - I didn't know that like my grand aunt has like a Wikipedia. - Well, you can take control of that. - Today, Brock was like-- - Do I have a Wikipedia? - You know, you should absolutely-- Are you actually looking for you? - I do not have a Wikipedia. - Just to put that out there, I do not have a Wikipedia. - That's nice. - No, you should have like a photography day in the Smithsonian. And Brock was like, you get, but like she had a whole Wikipedia.
- I had no idea. I just found her. - Right, I was like-- - It's very short, but yes. - I was like, no, wait, what? - Is that a life goal? Should we all try to have a Wikipedia page before we're dead? - I feel like no. - Well, okay. - Brad, I'm going to-- - I want a Wikipedia page. - Brad, I can't-- - You can't be a self-made one, though. - No, no, no, no, no. - I feel like-- - I want a Wikipedia page. - I feel like-- - It's like-- - It's like-- - And not because I like shot off a stool or something. - I want a Wikipedia page. - No, but that's you doing it. It has the Wikipedia page. - I'm all Facebook, so--
- I feel like I know some-- - Hey, if we have a PSA, get off Facebook. Facebook is terrible. Don't do that. - Right. - If you can, get off Facebook. - No. - If it's a support system, stay on it. But if you can get off it, get off it. - I have gone through the nonsense with Brock. And I'm like, I actually have friends in different times. Like, in different times, I was in different-- - And it is a source of anger. I feel like I'm gonna, like, unfriend a number of family members.
- No, so that's a great way. If you get on Facebook in the morning and you feel better, stay on it. - Yeah. - If you feel worse or feel anger or feel like I gotta post something, I gotta respond. - That's actually bad. - Yeah, then you should not do it. - Yeah. - And that's exactly, that's exactly how it works. - No, I feel like that should be something that we should, like, create. - And that's what happened to me. - We should create, like, a Twitter-- - We should start every podcast with that message. - Oh, no. - And also, don't forget to follow us on Facebook.
- No, seriously. - No, no, no, Twitter. Follow us on Twitter. And TikTok. Follow us on Twitter. - I was kidding. - Follow us on the TikTok community. - No, no, no. I'm serious. - No, I think Brad-- - No, if we're gonna go-- - I think the message is like, if you get up in the morning, you get up in the morning. - Yeah. - Like, if you get up in the morning-- - No, it's actually a really good way to look at it. - And you, like, visit Facebook or Twitter or TikTok or whatever the fuck it is. - Whatever it is. - And it makes you feel happy. - And it makes you feel good. - Great. Stay on that. - Then stay there. That's cool. - If it makes you feel in any way anxious or angry or depressed--
- And either way, if it makes you feel that way, you should-- - And then you should go seek other help because there's something else going on. - Like, I'm-- - Yeah. - I'm on Facebook. I talked about this, like, I'm on Facebook because I have friends in Australia and-- - Sure. - Actually-- - Australia doesn't exist. - Sorry. You're right. It was-- - I think that was birds. - That too. - No, they're drones. You idiot. - I have friends that are, like, a lot of different-- - Australia doesn't exist because if Australia exists, then the Flat Earth theory is not real.
They're all paid actors. This is not that hard. - I was talking to-- - What? I haven't heard that one. - Oh, yeah. - Oh, we're gonna digress. - Totally like this. - Yeah, let's go. - Apparently, Australia is a real. Everybody who lives there is a paid actor. - Oh, and they paid him just talking. - I worked for a company that was a bunch of teenagers. - But they were like, "Listen, we need to have some funny accent." Like, they picked that, like-- - Yeah, they made up the word "crikey." - The crikey, like, yeah, we were-- - The crocodile hunter never died. - And we're gonna give-- - He's alive somewhere. - And we're gonna give you all these crazy animals that will kill you, like--
- Yeah, it's-- - Remember, it's real. - And how-- it's total bullshit. It's all made up. - I saw one the other day. It was like, no one's ever sailed all the way around Antarctica. - So-- - Wait, what? - When you said that, Bob on Facebook. - No, it was a bullshit TikTok video where the Flat Earth are got it. He's like, no one's ever sailed all the way around because you can't-- - So when they get COVID, they're gonna also go into a tent. - Wait, wait. I'm pretty sure somebody has, right? - What? - I didn't look it up, but I was seeing-- - Oh, okay, okay.
- I mean, I don't know why you would, but-- - No, honey, nobody's ever done that. - No, but the guy on the TikTok was claiming that somebody, like Captain Hook or whoever was Captain Hook. No, it wasn't Captain Hook. [laughter] [laughter] - It was Captain Hook. - No, it was Captain Hook again. You're more on him. [laughter] - Anyway, so anything about history? - Oh my God. - Anyway, Captain Hook-- - Me. [laughter]
- It's just me. - It's just me. - It's just me. - I do have a funny, I'll tell you a story. - No, I didn't-- - No, wait, wait. - No, wait, hold on. We'll come back to this. - No, I didn't-- - We're gonna go-- - Who said like, wait. - No, so basically they said that whoever it was, they tried to sail-- they sailed 40,000 miles and never got all the way around in order-- - 40-- - 1,000 miles? - Yeah. 1,000. - Wait, no, wait, wait, wait. - Right, because it's flat. - It's flat, it's a disc. - Wait, wait, wait. - And they could be the world they never found her.
- Wait, stop, stop, wait. [laughter] - Oh my God. I'm just telling you. [laughter] - And it's supposed to be some-- Wow, I wish I knew that. - I wish I knew that. - The best argument I've heard against flat earthers-- - Wait. - --is that if there was an edge-- - What? - --that they would have-- that some, like, business people would have built, like, tourist things. So you could look over the edge. - Oh, wait. - No, wait, wait. - You're not even waiting until the water stays. - I don't know. [laughter] - Stop logic. No logic.
- All right, that's a sphere. - How's the water stay? - Wait. Like, that's like-- - It's gravity. The answer's gravity. [laughter] - That's actually really good argument. Like-- - No, gravity's only a theory. - Wait, if there was an edge-- Wait, you're right. If there was an edge, people would-- - Seriously, if there was an edge-- - No, you're right. - --entrepreneurs would have built shit on the edge so you could go visit the edge. - No, that's the best argument I've ever told. No, hold on, hold on. - Hold on, hold on. That's the best argument I've ever told. - That's the best argument I've ever told. - You guys are not true flat authors. You're right, you're right.
All the governments have gotten together and they made a pact and nobody can go to Antarctica, which is the wall in Game of Thrones and yeah, they all made a pact. That's why it's never been explored. - Wait, you get the-- - Fair-- - --even though it has, but more cool. - Yeah, I know. That has never been. - It has, but it hasn't. - The best thing is, I love it. - What are we talking about? - We're all-- - Oh my God. - --way off this. - Oh my God. - You know the Jones and the-- - Wait, wait, wait. - --the other ones that I live. I still need to talk about flat authors.
- I'm just joking. - Okay, okay. What I love is that they think all the other plants are round. - Great. - Oh yeah. - They didn't say it. If you were talking about a flat morsel. - We're just a flat disc flying through space. Everything else is round. - If you talk about flat morsels, like, no, of course it's a flat morsel. - Yeah, I think it does. - I think it does. - Okay. - Oh, boy. - This has been a fun digression. - We do bet. - I hope we don't have any flat authors listening to the podcast. If we do, please read a book. - Yeah, if both of you aren't listening, yeah.
- Please read a book. - Both of you can go fly in there. - In all seriousness, go watch Cosmos for Carl Sagan to come out in the '80s. He talks about how the ancient Egyptians knew the earth was round. - They were just there. - Five thousand years ago. - They were just big sphere. - Yeah. - That was big sphere. - That's true. - I mean, they built the pyramids for the aliens. The aliens told them that the earth was round. - It's right all about big sphere. - I know. - Yeah. - So, all right. So my template. - Wait. - No, wait a minute.
I've got another digression. I'm going to... - Okay. - Everybody's going to love this. It's going to be funny. - I was looking for Kelly's butt. - Kelly's sure. - Oh, she's got red. - She's moved on to red. - You're the only one on track that. - Okay. - Do you want a real one? - You want to let that breathe? - You're going to hooper it up. I mean, I'm sorry. - Roll call back to the shows. - Yeah. - I'm going to let that breathe. - So... - That was so bad. - I told Kelly this story. - All right. - This is, so back to Disney. We're talking about not knowing people's names.
I... - My entire life. - Wait. - I can't, no, stop. Amanda, I need to hear this story. I don't even know where this is going. - Okay. - Your entire life. - Your entire life. - Up until... - Up until... - Plus decades of it. - Okay. - Up until... Let's see. I'm trying to figure it out. - Wait. - I was wrong. - Where did this start? - Hold on. I'm trying to think. I was told...
He was little, so... It's probably 38. - Okay. - I thought... - I'm sorry. - I don't know. - I feel like we need a drum roll here. - I'm sorry. - In Pinocchio. - Okay. - In Pinocchio. - Wait. Okay. So Pinocchio. The very old cartoon that I've maybe seen once. - It's a movie. - It's not a cartoon. - It's a movie. - It's a movie. - It's a movie. - Pinocchio is a movie. - It's an animated feature. - Jesus Christ.
- No, but seriously... - You're both right. You're both right. - No, seriously. The Pinocchio, like the second... - In the Walt Disney Pinocchio... - Disney ever did. - Yes. - With the blue fairy on that. - Right, right. - With the cricket. - Okay. - Jimmy. - What was the cricket saying? - I'm not sure why that made him out. - Jimmy Cricket. - I thought his name was Jimmy. Jimmy the Cricket. - What? - Wait. - What? - Jimmy the Cricket. - It's not Jimmy. - Look, Jimmy. Wait.
- What? - Like a gangster? - I was like... - I was like... - I was like a mob. Like a mob. - I thought... - Yo, yo, yo. Jimmy the Cricket here. - Jimmy. - Okay. - Jimmy the Cricket. - Jimmy the Cricket. - I thought it was Jimmy the Cricket. - Wait. - Wait. - Wait. - Wait. - Wait. - Wait. - No, it's better. It's better. - Okay. - It's my gangster name. - Jimmy the Fish. - Jimmy the Fish. - You know, we're... - Wait. - Yeah, we're... - To be fair, what the hell is Jimmy?
It's the name. - Oh, Jimmy. - Jimmy. - Jimmy isn't... - It's Jimmy. - It's like J-I-M-I-N-Y. - Jimmy. - Jimmy. - Yeah. - It's weird. So I'll give you that. - The Cricket. - So... - Okay. So Jimmy the Cricket. - So... - So... - So... - So Jimmy the Cricket. - So Brad's laboring under Jimmy. - Jimmy the Cricket. - So... - So... - We used to go to Disney a lot. - Yes. - And... - Oh, I love it. - At least once every year of his life. - I love it. - He's 12.
- My son. - Yeah, my son. - My son. - And so he was like two or three of them went up there. And so there's an animal. For those that, you know, anyway, this really doesn't matter. But animal kingdom has a train ride that goes up. It's called Rafiki's Watch after the monkey that's in... or the baboon. Whatever it is. - He's the baboon. - Baboon. - And Lion King. - What's that? - Right. It presents Simba. - Right. - So there's like this watch, but it's like, it's a conservatory up there and they have
all this... Anyway, they have a character greeting station up there. And I have a picture where I'm like... As I thought him to know, Jimmy the Cricket. Jimmy the Cricket came out. And I'm like... I'm like, I'm gonna get my picture of Jimmy the Cricket. And so I take Ian. He's little. I'm holding them. And I'm talking to them because they all... all the characters just have handlers. And I'm like, "Hey, we want to get a picture with Jimmy the Cricket." Nobody corrected me. Nobody.
Jimmy the Cricket. Oh, and then I'm like, oh, this is cool. Jimmy the Cricket. Jimmy the Cricket. Oh, and then I'm like, oh, this is cool. Jimmy the Cricket. To be fair, Jimmy the Cricket sounds close to Jimmy the Cricket. - Jimmy the Cricket. - Jimmy the Cricket. - Yeah. - Sure. But it's Jimmy the Cricket the gangster. - We throw gang signs in the picture. - We are way off time. - We're way off time. I'm really sorry. But I think it's funny. So anyway, I had the picture done on that.
And then we come back. I mean, it's my ex-wife. It's like, oh, you got a picture. I was like, yeah, Jimmy was over there. It's just like, Jimmy. It was like, what? It was like, what are you talking about? I'm like, I just caught him. Jimmy, ten times we're talking to these people. What do you mean, he seems like Jimmy? It's Jimmy. Jimmy the Cricket. I'm like, it's not Jimmy the Cricket. I mean, it's one of those things.
His name's Jimmy the Cricket. I caught him Jimmy the Cricket. Anyway, I have a picture of that. He's got a face book. I think he's got a good random post. My name was Jimmy the Cricket. I'm a super fan. I'm a super fan. I'm a super fan.
Anyway, that's my Jimmy the Cricket story. Jimmy. So we're sitting around the couch tonight. He tells me that story. I'm just looking at him like, you're like, wait, wait. Jesus. It sounds like a fucking mob cricket. I know. That's why I was like, no, that's his name is Jimmy. That's ridiculously funny to me. Because my mob name is Jimmy the Cricket. You know, they were probably thinking, like, I'm going to have to. He's got his so cute. He's got special needs, but he's so cute.
Oh my God, this podcast is just all of us just laughing. I'm sorry. Oh, that was good. Oh my God. We can't embarrass him from his son. He's holding his son. Look at him. We're so proud of him.
I got another level. I'm wearing an Eagle's sweatshirt. I was an Eagle's fan too. Oh my God. Jimmy. Jimmy. Jimmy. Oh my God. Jimmy. I like the whole special needs that.
Oh my God. Oh my God. Jimmy is my favorite. What are you doing? He'd be like, you'd be amazed that half the people I talk to think my name is Jimmy the Cricket. Yeah. I called him Jimmy. I called the fucking guy. Nothing's really him, but I called the craze. Hey, Jimmy. How's it going? I put my head around like. He didn't flinch. He didn't jump off. You have to flinch, baby.
Okay. If it makes you feel any better. If you do a Google search for Jimmy the Cricket, the first thing is Jimmy Cricket. Oh my God. Oh my God. It was close. Oh my God. You have to chime in. You think you're a fantasy man too. Jimmy. Jimmy. Jimmy. Okay. Fairly. He's also known as Jake Crick. Young Cricky and Big Cricket. That can't be bad too. It has to be. Oh my God. That's too funny. Oh my God. That's too funny.
Wow. That was definitely a, that was a sidebar, but that was a good sidebar. Oh my goodness. All right. So where were we at? Oh my God. Is that we're watching again? I forgot. Okay. Oh my God. Everything hurts. Anyway, back to our Pinocchio. Yeah. So, okay. So back to the plot real quick. Oh my God. So the trio, the trio of Indiana Jones. Shorty. Oh. And Willie. Sorry. I'm sorry. It's a rock.
Oh, you're fine. You're fine. It was funny. Okay. So we're just getting back to the plot real quick. Okay. We're going back to the plot. So the trio of Indies, Shorty and Willie. Okay. So the blue fairy comes in. And Jimmy, Jimmy, the crickets. Okay. So the trio escaped from the temple. Pursued by the thuggies. Barely escaped. Mola Ron's attempt to flood them out. They're again ambushed by Mola Ron and his henchman on a rope bridge. Above a crocodile infested river. Brad has. God.
We skipped the whole best part. That's right. Well, we mentioned freeing the children. So yeah, the scene where he actually like frees the kids. Awesome. I will agree with that. That scene's clearly one of the best ways. We talked about how that, like that's. Where he was full bad ass. One frees the kids. That's actually a really good scene. Yeah. It's a really good scene. Hits him with the fire. And he snaps out of the, whatever the black comor, where they called it. Yeah. And I don't think it's black. I don't think it's black. I don't think it's black.
Oh, yeah. Never mind. No, when he snaps out of that and that, the next 30 minutes, it's all action for the next 30 minutes. Yeah. Fucking great. Yeah. That's why this movie is great. And it's again, I'll say it. It's over the top, but it's fun. I wouldn't. It's very fun. The mine car chase is fun. I haven't. That part's fun. But even before that, like Brad is touching on the liberation of kids. Yeah. It's a powerful scene. It's funny.
It's in a movie that's kind of campy, but it is a very powerful scene. No, but he's, no, but he's like, we're not, all of us are leaving. Yeah. He's trying to lock the kids and they're just surrounding him, but he gets them all out. Yeah. I always liked that part. And they're dropping all the chains all over the old, the guards that have knocked out. That's like great. That's like, that's like, you don't want to ascribe, like, is the best movie ever, like, just something that's not like a really, like, powerful movie. But like this, this part of this movie is, it really is like very heroic.
It is. It makes you really love Andy that much more. He's like, no, we can leave now, but we got to get these kids out of here. That's a really hard hitting back to show around. Yeah. That's a really good term, like, heroic. Yeah. Like, it's very Marvel. Yeah. Brad's got his hand up. I've got a, I've got another Brad fact. So I know. Right. Brad Brad fact. So the strong man, he beats on the, on the, very belt that falls into the rock grinder.
It's the same one he killed with the airplane. Holy shit. Really? Yeah. Same actor. Oh, wait. From Raiders. It's the same one he punched. Kinda. Come here. Come here. Same actor. No, no, like, no, like, no, like, I don't believe it, but like, oh. I mean, he was a huge dude. No. Yeah. And love that he, like, came back for this. Yes. I'd like to have Indiana Jones kill me again. That would be wonderful. No. He's like, I would like to paycheck. This is great.
Yeah. Put me back in the movie. I'll put a fake beard on to pretend to be Indian. Yeah. One of my favorite comic parts of this movie is when, when, when indie stops the mine cart with his feet and his feet are obviously like the friction. He's like, water, water. And here comes this flood of water that what's his name, the bad guy. Again, Mullaram has released. I never. That's a funny scene. You know, that is just. And does the whole, that's the whole, like, running him, him running. It's another one.
It's like classic Indiana Jones. Yeah. Yeah. And again, campy, but not over the top camp. Yeah. In my opinion. I just, I thought that always thought that. It's the same, it's the same app right after that. This movie tries. Yeah. It does try. It has the spirit of the first movie. It's just. It's just. But my point was right. It's another great, I think, scene is right after they get out when the water blast through and on that and they get out and then he, the two guys show up the swords
and it's a call back to when he goes for the gun. He goes for the gun and he doesn't have a gun. Then he fights him and then he does the whole, he defeats them both. And then he runs up with the sword and hand up to camera. And he's like, it's, oh, it's actually that to throw back to Star Wars with stormtroopers where he's like, oh shit. I know. Yeah. I run the other way. Yeah. Yeah. Again, a fun scene. A fun scene. Not overly can't be just fun. I think make that that the fucking drama on that bridge.
I think the bridge is one of the best scenes in the movie. Yeah. I will argue with you that that scene really makes that scene is a lot to, again, it's the practicalness of it. Him being on the bridge, cutting it, it falling. I don't like it. It could happen. There's not lava. There's not magic. There's none of this other stuff. I just, that's still a good scene. Where was the magic? Like the guy's still living, I guess. Yeah. Okay. Riffs his heart out and then I don't know. I don't know. I just, I think the bridge scene was really good. Two hours ago, we started this podcast and we all like landed on something and Brad was
like, love this movie, loved it from the beginning. Brock was like, yeah, it was good. And I was like, and so the whole idea of this podcast was. Hell yeah. Who? She gets to let, like, oh, she gets to, like, talk afterwards. Should I finish the plot? I don't know. We're nearly done. Anyway, anyway. We're talking about the bridge and I haven't gotten the bridge yet. Can I finish? Can I do the bridge?
Yeah, I'm sorry. We got three spots. Five. Super Death Star. Bridge plot. All right. Indy cuts the bridge causing several of the henchmen default to the crocodiles. I think there were supposed to be alligators actually. It looked like alligators. I don't know. And leaving the survivors to hang for their lives. I'm just saying. Kelly and I talked about this is between. I'm not a reference. Okay. Hold on. Hold on. We're nearly done. As mola ramen. I can't tell them to in Jimmy and Jimmy. That's true. As mola ramen. You either way, but as mola ramen.
As mola ramen indy struggle, Indy invokes the name of Shiva causing the stones to glow red hot and burn through indy satchel. Two of them fall out. Mola ram tries to catch the third but burns his hand and falls from the bridge. Into the river where he too is eaten by the crocodiles. That's silly part. To be honest. In this movie, the only part I didn't like. I except all the other. He died too easily. No, no, no. But the fact that they, the stones turned like, I wish it would have been better if they just worked the bag apart. Like if Indy somehow knew what to say and. No, but like, you know, why, like, why do they, like, why do they turn to the fire?
Like, if he just been pulling the bag and the bag ripped the part. Back to the Raiders of the last arc. Very end where the arc, you know, they can. No, I know. I already know the supernatural. The guy, he ripped somebody's heart out and the guy was still alive and dropped him a bit. I'm not saying there isn't. But like, to me, I don't know. It seemed like for it, Indy was never. At least in, he's never really a part. He understands it, but he's never a part of it. For him to, for him to invoke essentially the spell to make them.
That's where I'm like, that's only part of this movie. I'm like, I wish he just, they could have just ripped the bag apart. Maybe it's over the top. Sure. No, I get that. I get that. I'm nitpicking. All right. I'm going to finish the plot now because we're nearly there. Let me talk about it. Wait, wait, is it over? Almost. Indy catches the stone safely and climbs up to the company of British Indian army riflemen, Senpai to Maharaja. They arrive and open fire on the Fuggies to drive them away.
They had the higher grants. The surviving Fuggies are soon cornered and arrested by more soldiers. Indy, Willie, and Shorty return safely to Mya Poor with the stone and the missing children. Let me. Dun, dun, dun, dun, dun. The movie's over. Yeah. I don't think anything goes. Sorry. I was just. It's an audio medium. Sorry. Amanda was raising her hand. I'm sorry. My hand is up.
I'm sorry. What? My hand is up. Welcome to Does It Hold Up? We're going to talk about country music. What is the term off the rails? Yeah. I don't know how many times I've said that phrase. I'm going to edit that out. I'm going to edit that out. It's probably going to be 10 minutes long.
Good movie. Anyway, hand up. What you got? What you got? Girl. I just finished the plot. Should we give our final synopsis? Apparently Amanda has something. Nothing you say. What do you got to say? Sorry. Jimmy. Jimmy. It's in. It's fucking Jimmy. It's in. Big cricket. Apparently it was his nickname. That's what it said. Jimmy. Give me a big cricket.
No, just big cricket. Oh my God. You know, there's big oil and big cricket apparently. Big cricket. You shouldn't take it to learn on the internet. Oh God. Internet is wonderful and horrible at the same time. Do we want to do our final synopsis? Yeah. We got through the movie. Move is over. Okay. I thought she did too. Do we have anything to say about the final? No. I want to talk about the ropes scene. That is a fucking... What you've seen is good. I will admit.
The first scene is intense. I remember seeing that theater as a kid. It was like, you're on an edge of shit. What the fuck's going to happen here? He's going to be that crazy. He's really going to fucking do it. Like the first time I saw it. And the way he talks the show around in Mandarin and you're like, you know, hold on basically. Yeah. Hold on. He's like, hey, bring us around. And hell. Yeah. It's a good scene. It's a good scene. That scene, again, invokes more of the first movie than I've seen. No, if I... There's not another scene as a kid.
Another movie. Like that is that like... It's like they're... They're... They show the long shot of the people walking down the music. Yeah. It is so fucking intense. It's good. Straight on. It's like... I ought to admit that scene didn't impress me. Really? No. Alright, we'll edit that out. No. That's what I'm feeling. The difference between... No, no, seriously. What... What... It was just the... Like it was just the end of the... Like that was how they resigned.
It was too easy. Was it too easy? It wasn't any more impressive to me than any of the... Like the mine cart scene or... Okay. No, that's... I mean, like you didn't have any kind of anxiety. I think it would be just hard so much of stuff like that. Over the top. Yeah. By the end it was just like, okay, that's how we end it. But I will say again, harkening back to the whole idea of where these... The ideas for this movie came from. If you go and look at like 1920s and 30s movies, rope bridges were huge. Yeah.
It was just a thing. Yeah. That's actually... That's kind of something that I thought was really cool. Like they kind of... They did that and... I think it was a cool way to end the movie, but it was... Yeah. Like you guys are talking about how it was so important. And I just... I don't remember ever being super impressed by it. Like it was just... What was your favorite scene in the movie? Definitely the open. That's what I said. Okay, so the... Okay, that's fair. Yeah. I would say that's good. Yeah. And I mean, I liked the scenes. I always liked the dinner scene. Because it was like, as a kid, yeah. As a kid it was like, it was gross, but it was kind of funny where she, you know, the bug scene.
I mean, there are so many, but that's why I thought this movie just had so many. So much of that. Yeah. That it was... By the time it got to that, it was just like, okay. I mean... Is it too quick? I don't know. I just don't... I didn't get the whole like, you were like, so like, this was my favorite scene. The drama on it seems... I just think it's the best scene. I will say now. Sorry, man. Oh, please. It wasn't a bad scene. It just wasn't a bad scene. No, I would say it was an adult. It seems... Like, we watched the time. It seems much faster. Yeah.
I had this in my head that's just long drawn out. Yeah. And it's pretty... I mean, in the movie, it's probably like a six minute scene. Yeah. It's fair, Brad. It's like that. It's really... It's a kid. And remember, I feel like it was this... Oh, my God. At the end of the drama, they're like, waiting for them to shoot. Yeah. It was... What about you, Brad? No, I agree... I agree with Brad. Like, the entire movie, for me, as a kid, it was like... There were so many things that were like...
There was like a lot of dramatic action. Yeah. This was happening. You had mentioned, like, the food... Like, it was like... You were... As a kid, you were like... Eating these things, and you were like experiencing this, and then... Yeah. This was happening, and then... Like, your heart was being pulled out. Like, there was just like a lot as a... As a small... As a small child, it was like a teenager...
Like, a twig. Like, when you were watching this movie in a theater, you were going through all these things. Right. It was just like... I feel like they just had a lot of iconic scenes. Yeah. That's true. There are a lot of scenes that are very memorable. And of course, you were just like...
You were... Going through... Like, going... You were trying to... Go through... I can't... You were trying to... Go through the marketplace. Like, with indie and short-round, right? And then you were also trying to... Be...
What's her name, like, as a... Willy. Yeah, Willy, and you were trying to, like, go through... Being with her. And... No, it's... Like, there's so many things that... Like, you're trying to, like... Yeah. Go through. I think maybe we should just get to... Do we... What do we think? I do want to throw in one factor over here. Okay.
This is interesting. Spielberg... Spielberg wanted Willy to be a complete contrast to Mary and Ravenwood. Oh. That's... So that was on purpose. Really? Her being, you know, inept. More of a city girl. That's... Not able to really deal with stuff. Although, I have to admit, she wasn't as screamy and useless as I remember her being. She wasn't. I will say that seems like that is something that is in our lexicon. That is like... Oh, that movie. Like a false memory on it? Almost.
Yeah. Like, she's a terrible... Like, she screams off... She does scream some, but it's no more... She's not completely useless. I mean, it's not like it's... She's also a nightclub singer. I mean, you can't expect her to be, like, some super adventurer. I feel like it also has to harbor to... When we were kids, it was in 19... You know, early 1980s when this movie came out, obviously. And divorce is this big thing, and Spielberg had gotten divorced. Oh.
And this was his new girlfriend. Oh, that's... A thing at that point, or did they need it on the set? No, that's... They met on the set, didn't they? I know. I think they were a thing. That's why she got real hard. No, I think you're... That's... That's what I remember in my head. And so I feel like it's just, like, false, like... Out in the ether that, "Oh, she got the part where she was fucking sleeping." No, but I think you're right, because, honestly, my... And then I bring all the... She even dyed her hair.
She's a natural brunette. She dyed her hair blonde. For her to be that different from Mary. Oh, it's Mary. I don't... I'll be honest. It's not that crazy. No, but, I mean, it's just one of those things where, like, they went out of... Oh, my gosh, it's dyed her hair blonde. They went out of their way... That's right. To make her... The total color on the set. That's a different from Mary. This is one of the things that I didn't like originally, because I like Mary. Well, but you know what? I kind of agree with that, because how would you, unless you had brought Mary in into it, you're not going to...
If you loved that character, which everyone did, you weren't going to be able to take care. Like, why would you even try? So, honestly, they probably wasn't a bad thing. But they couldn't, though, because it's a prequel. And he had not seen Mary in until he's... They didn't try to make his character appear. I didn't like her from the get-go. Like, I really went into this movie. Like, no, I don't like her. Right. She's obviously not Mary in, and then...
Yeah. She was her own character. We had all discussed that she actually screamed less. Then we thought she screamed through all of these scenes. And she actually only screamed through maybe a quarter or a third of those. You want a really, really, really random fact? Okay. The very first prequel in film history was the Gollum, how he came into the world, which was a prequel to the Gollum. The Gollum was a 1915 movie.
And the Gollum, how he came into the world, was a 1920 prequel. You were talking about the first prequel? I'm sorry, I didn't know about the Gollum. No, but this is a really good one. Zulu, remember Zulu? Not Chaka. The original Zulu was Michael Kate. That was the Chaka Zulu part. They made a prequel in 1979 called Zulu Dawn. So, how old a prequel?
I don't think called it a prequel, but it was a prequel. It was events that happened before the... Actually, I don't think the term prequel came about until Star Wars. And apparently there were a shit ton of Godzilla movies that were prequel. I'm just looking at Wikipedia. I thought you had mentioned while we were watching this, that you thought this might be the first prequel. I'm very curious to see if that was a prequel. No, I thought it was, but maybe... But again, they didn't call it a prequel, no one called it.
That was a word. Even with all those movies, I'm sure that wasn't a term used. Yeah, no, it was just a trick. I don't think the term prequel was used until... I don't think the term prequel was used until... I don't know. Is it the Star Wars movies? I don't remember hearing that word. Yeah. In my world, prequel was not used as Star Wars. The prequels were the... I think it's a more recent term, even in the last 20 years.
All right, before you go down the rabbit hole on prequels, should we wrap this one up? Yeah, I sure will. Yeah, I think we should wrap it up. We've baffled on that enough about Jimmy the Cricket. Jimmy? I talked at a circle for about the past five years. All right, who serves? Sorry. You know what to do? You go first. Oh, sorry. I'll go first. I'll go first. I'll go around. I think...
I would say that it has some minor issues here and there, but overall, as an entertainment movie, it holds up. It's fun. Okay, so... Temple of Doom. So, wait, wait, hold on. But I want to, like... Wait. As a kid, you thought it was good. No, as a kid, I thought it was decent, but not as good as Raiders. And I would say that's still the same. Is it a fun movie? Yeah. Is it watchable? Yeah. Does it have lots of, like, questionable issues? Not as many as some of the other films we've watched recently?
Sure. I think it's totally watchable. And it's a fun movie. I'd say it holds up. In the context of when it was made. Yeah. I would argue against my smaller person that when I was younger, I didn't like this movie, but as an adult, I'd be like, "This doesn't have the brand trifecta." As far as it comes to as, like, the three things.
The three things. There are movies. There are movies. Sort of. Sort of. Sort of. Everything that you... Sort of. One of the three movies. Child sacrifice. Almost the other. Right. Movies. Child sacrifice. Oh, we should look this up. Shit. God damn it. There's something else. I don't know. I don't know. There's the brand trifecta. It's not my trifecta. I can't remember it. It sort of touches on each one, but never to an extreme degree. Great. Great. Thank you.
Yes. Right. There is zero rapiness. Yes. No. No, the scene with... Sorry. No. The scene with Andy and Willie is... Totally consensual. Totally consensual. They both want to be with each other, but don't weather both playing hard. Thank you, Kelly. Yeah. Yeah. Good boy. No. Sorry, I didn't mean to interrupt. You don't have to interrupt. So, what is your overall thing? I didn't like it as a...
I like it better now. Okay. I'll be honest. Good. That might be a first. It's not a great movie, but I feel like the objectionable pieces are less objectionable now. So... Yeah. I mean, not as good as the first one, but not terrible.
Yeah. Like... I was pleasantly surprised. I was... Really? Yeah. The best movie that we did was the greatest American athlete or whatever the heck it was. World's greatest athlete. There you go. Yeah. I feel like this sort of falls on little bit. I think it still works. Yeah. All right. What about you, Brad? You love it. You want an answer? Oh, you want an answer? Oh, no. I can note it. Thank you, Kelly. I mean, I... I loved it as a kid for, like I said, for those reasons.
I mean, that I loved the beginning scene. I loved any time it was on TV. I would watch it. If it was on HBO, I'd watch it. I mean, looking at it through adult eyes now. It's... It's a... Like you said, brah. It's a fun movie. I will still watch it if it comes out. I just watched it. Actually, not even a month ago. So it's... Do I enjoy it as much as when I was a kid? No, but it's still entertaining. You just take it with a grain of salt.
It's not meant to be a deep movie. It's meant to be entertaining. Yeah. So, yes. I knew it. In my opinion, it does still hold up just for the entertainment. Yes. Okay. Yeah. And now we come to Jimmy the cricket. Oh boy. I don't know. It's still holds up. It's great. It's a fucking great movie. It wasn't as good as... Obviously, it was a good movie when I was a kid. And it's still fun. It's still a fun movie now. And even...
I mean, I haven't even mentioned this. I had in college, I had a couple of furry brothers who were in the... And they loved this movie because of the Indian. And even... I remember having... You don't think it's problematic. And they were like, "Well..." But it still shows some Indian culture. Yeah. Like, we don't ever have that. So, I was like, "Okay." So, this is their favorite movie and... It is not a realistic movie. No, no. They weren't like, "Oh, yeah, we did that." It's a fun movie. It's a fun movie. They were clear.
Like, this is not realistic. But it's a fun movie because they essentially mentioned India. It would be interesting to see if they still have that same thought. Like, 20 or some years later. You know what? I could reach out to me and see if they... Are they on the Facebook? They are on the Facebook. I could reach out. I would be... That would be an interesting to see if they were watching again as mature adults now. Not just college kids. No. If they would still have that same...
Yeah, we're not the same people we worked on. Yeah. Oh my God. No. Like, as long as you understand this, it's a fake... It is not historically accurate. Right. They shouldn't see it. I wish they... Actually, this movie would be fine if they had just used a fake country. At that time they could have used... Yeah. They could have been 90 or 35. They were so sad. They could have made up something. Yeah. Yeah. In Andy at Sand or whatever they wanted to call it. Like, it could have been something like, "Oh."
Yeah. And most of the people that watch these movies would be like, "Oh." I guess it was a country back then. I didn't know this. But they could have just made something up. Yeah. And then it would have been like, "Oh." Nobody... But no, it's still fun. It's still exciting. The last 30 minutes of this movie are... I mean, they're one of the best... Once Andy gets hit with the fire. So, through the... Save the kids. Save the kids. Mine car. Bridge scene. I'll agree with that.
It's an insane action non-stop. And he's still a really good hero. Andy and a Jones is still a great hero. Yeah. If you ride... He does things... I would have... He's a... I would definitely buy every... If Andy and a Jones walked into the bar, he would drink on me for free, though. Yes. And I'll just listen to his stories. If he walked into the bar and said, "I need three guys to come help me." I would buy... I'd be like... I don't know. I don't know about that. That might be dangerous. No, I would volunteer.
It would be dangerous. But you know you'd be doing it for the right reason. Yeah. I'd be like, "Hey, is it Nazis or Indians this time?" Yeah. Which one do you do? Oh my god. Nazis. Nazis are... I'm in for the Nazis. Let's go. Yeah. I was pleasantly surprised. It wasn't as bad as I remembered. Yeah. I agree. In certain ways. In certain ways. You guys poo-pooed me when I said you should watch. Okay. You guys all did. Brad, what did I say?
We poo-pooed you? Yeah, you're all used. Yeah. You guys all shaking me on this. And I was like... I said I watched it recently. It's still good. It's a good movie. It was okay. Yeah. And you said, "Alright, fine, Brad. I'll watch it." So... I mean, we're not sure about the next two. And then you're like... It's Jimmy the cricket. Jimmy the cricket. We got a couple more for Spielberg that we're thinking of doing. So, we'll see if those work out too. But... Yeah. Okay.
We'll do both of them. It holds up. It holds up for what it is. Actually, it really does. So, it's not culturally purple. In some aspects. It really does. No, in most, it's not. It holds up. I think they misrepresent the Indian village aspect of it. No, but the whole... But there's a cult aspect. The cult aspect. The cult aspect. And the rich people aspect. It's a big... It's a big... It's a big... It's kind of ridiculous. Yeah. It's an 80s movie that doesn't have any rape in it.
So... Cut it. That's a win. Way to go, guys. Way to go. Thank you, Steven. Thank you, Mr. Spielberg. Way to go. Thanks for keeping the rape out of it. And on that note... And that's... We'll go ahead and end it there. Yay, no rape.
